Growing up with a summer house by the Saronic Gulf, I've spent countless summers mesmerized by the Corinth Canal's passage of cargo and passenger ships. Exploring Corinth's archaeological site with my history-loving grandpa left an indelible mark on me. Now, as your tour guide, I'm excited to share this experience with you. Together, we'll delve into the rich history of Ancient Corinth and marvel at the iconic Corinth Canal. Among the highlights of our tour are: ·Driving along part of the Sacred Way which served as a path of pilgrimage from Athens to the sacred site of Eleusis for the Eleusinian Mysteries in ancient times. ·Witnessing the engineering marvel of the Corinth Canal, the narrow waterway connecting the Aegean & Ionian seas. ·Exploring the remnants of Ancient Corinth, a once-thriving city, home to the Temple of Apollo and the Bema, where Apostle Paul is said to have addressed the Corinthians. ·Enjoying the view of Acrocorinth, a towering fortress perched atop the Acropolis of ancient Corinth.
-We'd depart from your accommodation in Athens, or an agreed meeting point in the city centre. -We'd drive through the city's western suburbs and along the Saronic Gulf. -We'll pass by a) the Daphni monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its Byzantine architecture and mosaics, and b) Eleusis, an ancient city renowned for the Eleusinian Mysteries, sacred rituals dedicated to the goddess Demeter & her daughter Persephone. -We'll do a short stop at the Corinth Canal, walk on the bridge over the canal, get a snack/coffee. -Next, a guided visit at the Ancient Corinth archaeological site & museum. We'll explore the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Forum & the iconic Bema, where St. Paul once stood. -If time permits, we'll drive to Acrocorinth, to enjoy the view from the towering fortress. -Return to the starting point or another central location. *The tour is customizable according to your interests or needs. Optional stops/visits/experiences can be added at an extra cost. Please contact me for details.
