Anchorage City Fish Wildlife - Half Day Tour

This short, half-day tour visits the prime hot spots around the city where to observe various kinds of fish and wildlife in their natural settings (not a zoo trip). Frequent stops are made to soak in the sights of moose (year-round) and various migratory birds (May-October) in their home environments along forested trails and meadows, and spawning salmon fill local waters starting in June and continuing through fall as they are on colorful yet stark display of the end-stage of their life cycle.

Eagles are often seen soaring overhead or sitting perched in trees as they wait to partake in the annual feast of dead and dying salmon littering the shorelines of streams. Sometimes, black and brown bear both may be spotted in certain places and times, usually in early morning or late evening wandering along a salmon stream or through a section of forest. While a few of the locations visited are known destinations, some are more frequented by locals and viewed as the true jewels of the city of Anchorage.

In 1915 Anchorage was just a tent city located at the mouth of Ship Creek and got its start from the completion of a rail line that ran from Seward to Fairbanks. See for yourself and join me on this scenic tour, where I will show you the natural beauty of Alaska's largest city.
The tour will take you to landmarks such as Point Woronzof, Earthquake Park, Potter Marsh, Ship Creek, Lake Hood, Fish Hatchery, and more.

At each stop, you will have time to explore the location, take pictures and learn about the local

We will have the chance to visit historic Ship Creek where Anchorage was first settled as a tent city in 1911. Here we'll find a thriving urban salmon stream where urban anglers catch salmon. This is also the location of the Anchorage rail terminal for the historic Alaska Railroad. I'll take you to Earthquake Park and Pt. Woronzof, where you can take in the stunning view of the Anchorage skyline set against the backdrop of Cook Inlet and snow capped mountains. We may even catch sight of a moose along the roadway!

We will stop at the busiest seaplane base in the world, Lake Hood. Watch as local bush pilots expertly land their planes and taxi to their landing docks. We'll visit the incomparable Turnagain Arm and Beluga Point. Take in the majestic scenery and scout for wildlife at a safe and respectful per TBL policy on viewing wildlife.

Three hour Sightseeing Anchorage Tour

Carved out by a gigantic river of ice millennia ago, Portage Valley today is part of the Chugach National Forest and home to populations of salmon and wildlife such as bears and moose. Numerous developed trails and trail spurs span the forested valley, providing easy day hikes to the area's lakes, ponds, and salmon spawning streams. Late summer and fall is the perfect time to observe the colorful display of these fish as they procreate the next generation as has been done for eons.

Along with this activity comes the very real possibility of spotting (at a safe distance) both black and brown bear that prowl these waters looking for salmon to feast on. Small gatherings of bald eagle are a daily occurrence throughout the autumn months and into early winter (September-November).

The valley is bordered by forest-clad mountains, complete with ice fields and bluish-green glaciers, making for a perfect Alaska-themed setting. The Portage Glacier can be viewed up close by boat for additional cost.

Scenic drive Anchorage - Whittier - Anchorage

In the Talkeetna Mountains, just outside of Palmer Alaska is a pristine area now known as Hatcher Pass, which derives its name from the first gold miner to lay claim in 1906, Robert Hatcher. With nearly 6 million dollars' worth of gold mined in the hard rock tunnels, it was one of the highest-yielding mines in the territory. In 1938, Alaska Pacific Mining Company bought it, and was named Independence Mine. Still standing are many of the buildings that were used and are open to the public. Besides viewing their living conditions, you will learn the rich history of the mine, and who knows, you may even see a ghost.

We will also stop and visit the Eklutna Russian Orthodox Church, which is one of the oldest in the state and the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer. There you will get up close to these arctic mammals and learn their history and habits.
Always be alert for wildlife such as moose, bears, eagles, etc. We will make numerous pause for pictures and to enjoy the awesome views.

Full Day Trip from Anchorage to Seward Transfer and Tour

On this full-day private tour you will see more sites than you would on an ordinary tour. I will show you all the special things that make Turnagain Arm, and the Seward Highway unique.

After pickup at your location in Anchorage, we will drive south on the Seward Highway along the Turnagain Arm making stops along the way for scenic views and wildlife sightings. Make a visit to the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood and take an optional scenic tram ride up the mountain for lunch.

Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to view and photograph Alaska's iconic native animals. The facility exists to rescue/rehabilitate animals (i. e. where the animals were sick, injured, orphaned, donated or abandoned when they arrived) and the facility holds appropriate credentials/permits/licenses. Next we will continue south into the beautiful Kenai Mountains and end the tour in Seward.

Half Day Turnagain Arm Tour with Private Transportation

This Private Tour of Turnagain Arm is a 4.5-hour tour starting and ending in Anchorage. We'll head south of Anchorage on the Seward Highway and stop at a couple of pullouts along the highway for photos first.

Then, we'll head south to the Wildlife Conservation center and see up close grizzly bears, moose, elk, caribou, eagles, owls, and more! After about an hour at the Wildlife Conservation Center we'll go to Portage Lake and take in views of the Portage Glacier and gorgeous mountains surrounding the lake.

Extended Anchorage City Private Tour

Observe the immense Matanuska Glacier and see the world renowned beauty of surrounding mountain ranges, glacial rivers, deep forests, and crystal clear lakes and streams. I tell you that it IS possible if you know where to go, what to see and why should you see this. Anchorage is just another city, but… 15 minutes here and there make all the difference.

Checking cultural attractions means to see real tribal houses and boats, seeing city and the Ocean from the top - it's something different than just walking same looking streets. Having little picnic on the way with an amazing view brings the tour on the local level. Full Day Tour of Anchorage

On this private tour (Customizable), I will pick up anywhere in Anchorage. We will begin the tour with a stop at Potter Marsh, an ideal break for birders and other wildlife viewers to take photos and get amazed by the unbelievable scenery.

In this tour you will have the opportunity of making some stops at highway pullouts along Turnagain Arm for possible photos of Beluga Whales and Dahl sheep.

We will continue to the Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage. See Buffalo, Caribou, Bears, etc.

After the Wildlife Conservation Center we'll enjoy the scenery to the Summit Lake Lodge cafe for a short 10 minute break. We'll drive through Moose Pass on our way to Seward and have the option of hiking Exit Glacier which is a 1. 5 hour hike or driving around Seward to see some of the shops and sights. The hike at Exit Glacier is flat for the 1st half and then a moderate level incline to the glacier.
