Explore Phoenix your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Phoenix tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Phoenix for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Catch sunrise at Papago Park’s Hole-in-the-Rock, walk the Desert Botanical Garden with a focus on Sonoran plants, or scout for wild horses along the Salt River after an easy scenic drive.

History tours: Walk ancient Hohokam canals and a platform mound at S’edav Va’aki Museum (formerly Pueblo Grande Museum), tour the Victorian Rosson House at Heritage Square, and add the Heard Museum for Indigenous art and stories.

Layover tours: Get picked up at Sky Harbor, hike Papago Park, pop into the Desert Botanical Garden or Tempe Town Lake and Mill Avenue for a quick bite, then head back to the airport with a built-in security buffer.

Getting around: The Valley is spread out; Valley Metro Rail links the airport to downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa, but many tours run smoother by car, so you can book chauffeured tours or ask for tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Phoenix inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Phoenix

Use Phoenix as your launchpad for day trips that trade freeways for red rocks, desert lakes, and small‑town streets. Plan your tours around hiking, history, or food, and keep the drive times sensible.

- Sedona: Red rock spires, creek‑side shade, and easy viewpoints make this a strong first pick. Pick short trails like Bell Rock or Airport Mesa, stop for photos at scenic pullouts, and add time in town for galleries and a hearty lunch before the return.

- Superstition Mountains and the Apache Trail to Canyon Lake: Classic Sonoran Desert views, saguaro forests, and rugged geology fill the day. Walk a mile or two at Lost Dutchman State Park, scan for bighorn sheep from a lake overlook, and time a golden‑hour stop as the cliffs change colour.

- Jerome and Cottonwood: A steep hillside mining town with narrow lanes and stories from the copper boom pairs well with tasting rooms in the valley below. Mix street art, a small museum, and a flight of local wines so the day blends history and easy sipping.

- Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well near Camp Verde: See well‑preserved cliff dwellings and a spring‑fed limestone well where ancient canals still show. Link both sites on one loop and add Fort Verde State Historic Park for a compact run through early settler history.

- Prescott and the Granite Dells: Stroll the courthouse plaza and Whiskey Row, then circle boulders and blue water on the Watson Lake loop. The cooler air and simple trails make this a relaxed change of pace without a long drive.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Phoenix most travellers miss.
