Explore Rapid City your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Rapid City tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Rapid City for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Track bison and pronghorn along the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park, with quick photo stops at Sylvan Lake and the Needles for those granite spires. Catch sunrise in Badlands National Park, then stroll the easy Door or Notch Trail and meet prairie dogs at Roberts Prairie Dog Town.

History tours: Stand beneath Mount Rushmore before visiting the in-progress Crazy Horse Memorial to hear the story behind the carving and the people it honours. Add Deadwood for tales of gold rush legends and a visit to Mount Moriah Cemetery, or explore The Journey Museum to connect Lakota and pioneer histories.

Layover tours: With 3–6 hours from RAP, your guide can meet you curbside for a fast run to Mount Rushmore via Keystone for photos and a fudge stop, or keep it close with the City of Presidents statues around Main Street Square and a quick hop to Dinosaur Park. Longer layovers can stretch to Badlands’ Pinnacles Overlook and a stop at Wall Drug.

Downtown streets around Main Street Square are walkable, but buses are limited and major parks sit many kilometres away. For these distances, ask your local guide about chauffeured tours or book tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Rapid City inside and out.
