Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The AWCC is dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife. View and photograph bears, caribou, musk-ox, wolves, and more. The setting is stunning. We can wing it if you prefer a casual style of travel. The only thing needing advance reservations is scenic flightseeing or dogsledding. This is a perfect way to spend part of a day traveling to/from the Whittier cruise terminal. Dawn has incredible knowledge of the area and its history. Alyeska and the wildlife reserve are must stops along with the smaller road pull-offs with great landscape views. Dawn knows where they are.
We only had one day in the Anchorage area and wanted to see more than just the road between Whittier and Anchorage so we booked the “Whittier – Strangest Town in Alaska” Tour with Dawn. Dawn picked us up at the Port of Whittier, gave us a quick tour of Whittier and started us on our journey to Anchorage. We spent a great day with Dawn including a number of trail hikes we never would have taken. One hike was to the base of a glacier and another to a look out over the city of Anchorage with a view of Denali off in the distance. And let’s not forget the black bear that walked in front of our car as we drove between hiking trails and that lunch at a rustic pub. Dawn drove us through different local communities and the downtown business district. We ended the day driving around Lake Hood, the largest floatplane base in the world. Again, just a great ending to our trip to Alaska.
Dawn was a wonderful tour guide. Personable, easy to talk to, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We wanted a tour of the Anchorage area to take us from the hotel to the ship in Whittier and this did not disappoint. Dawn gave us different options to tailor the trip to our liking, we arrived on time, and we enjoyed the trip very much.
We are a family of 6, and Dawn, our guide, worked with us to customize the tour to our interests. We got a tour of Anchorage including Earthquake park, the waterside and mud flats, and a short hike up to Flat Top mountain before heading out for Whittier, ate lunch at a small locals' bar, stopped and took lots of photos of the spectacular scenery whenever we wanted, stopped at a wildlife center, and finished up with a short tour of Whittier ( not a lot to see there). Did a lot in a few hours.
