Having lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for some 45 years and being a small-business owner for decades, I have traveled worldwide extensively as well as throughout the state of Alaska. Was born and raised and lived for many years in both Norway and Sweden before moving to Alaska. Worked in the airline and travel industry for years and display a great joy and passion sharing information related to travel within the state, and possess patience and enthusiasm along with a good dose of positivity! Overview of your Anchorage tour

A favorite destination with both locals and visitors alike, Turnagain Arm is a constantly changing body of water that hosts multiple species of fish as well as marine mammals. Huge tidal swings of up to 38 feet twice a day brings a wave of water crashing over the extensive mudflats, which we may witness up close yet safely so. With the tides come pods of hungry, white Beluga whales that chase schools of salmon and smelt along the shoreline and into river mouths. Seals and sea lions may also be spotted. Additionally, groups of bald eagle frequent the arm, but perhaps especially so in spring and early summer as they sit on the mudflats gorging on fish. Both brown and black bear are occasionally seen in the area. Dall sheep are observed year-round, grazing the mountainsides next to the highway and sometimes even come down to the shoulder of the roadway for perfect close-up pictures. In season (primarily August), wild berries dot the surrounding landscape and makes for a great, healthy snack.

We had a fantastic day with Gunnar. We asked him to arrange a full day tour that introduced us to Anchorage and areas to the south that we would not be visiting during a small group tour we are joining tomorrow. We had several stops for animals, glaciers, waterfalls, and other scenery. He adjusted his plan on the fly as we came across interesting sights. Our 8 hour plan evolved into a 10 hour day of adventure and beauty. It was a great introduction to Alaska. We highly recommend his guiding service!!

We booked Gunnar for three tours for our first three days in Anchorage. Unfortunately, the weather was really awful our first day and not very good for the next two. Gunnar was really flexible and willing to work with us so that we could see as much as possible even if the weather didn't cooperate. He was absolutely fantastic! Gunnar is knowledgeable (I don't think we asked him a question he couldn't answer), patient (we are older and don't move as fast as we used to!), a safe driver and has a good sense of humor. He also knew where to take us so we could see bears and salmon spawning and stunning landscapes, etc. During the 2 1/2 weeks we spent exploring Alaska, my husband and I agree, our best times were spent on tours with Gunnar. Book him. You will not be disappointed!

We had a fantastic day with Gunnar as we toured the Turnagain Arm area outside of Anchorage. He was so knowledgeable and flexible. We saw beautiful and interesting areas.
