Having lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for some 45 years and being a small-business owner for decades, I have traveled worldwide extensively as well as throughout the state of Alaska. Was born and raised and lived for many years in both Norway and Sweden before moving to Alaska. Worked in the airline and travel industry for years and display a great joy and passion sharing information related to travel within the state, and possess patience and enthusiasm along with a good dose of positivity! I am easy to get along with, flexible, and will go out of my way to provide for an exceptional and personal learning experience for every tour customer, whom I treat as a personal guest. All of my tours can be customized upon request and always open to new adventures. I am a small business owner specializing in Alaska travel and outdoor activities, including guiding groups of individuals in wilderness settings, and have written or co-authored a half dozen books on specifics regarding the subject. I am also trained in CPR and First Aid. Was employed as a teacher at the University of Alaska for 14 years as well. None

Overview of your Anchorage tour

Observe the immense Matanuska Glacier and see the world renowned beauty of surrounding mountain ranges, glacial rivers, deep forests, and crystal clear lakes and streams. The main thoroughfare—Glenn Highway—is designated a National Scenic Byway that parallels the braided Matanuska River floodplain, following the dramatic path carved by ancient glaciers long ago, lending easy but absolutely breathtaking views from the road. There are ample opportunities for taking pictures and resting along the way as the trip extends from tidewater of the Matanuska River in a northeasterly direction, witnessing the landscape change from flatlands to an alpine environment, and culminating at the viewing points within close proximity of the Matanuska Glacier. For those wanting to add on to the adventure even more, there is a possibility (for an extra charge) to register for a hiking tour up to the face and sides of the glacier for a truly intimate close-up encounter. Moose, eagles, and spawning salmon are frequently spotted.

Our guide was knowledgeable and willing to tailor make our excursion to places and sites of interest to us. He was friendly and knew where he was going so we didn't have to worry about getting where we wanted to go. We learned a great deal about our tour destinations as well as Alaskan culture and history. We had a good lunch at a place he recommended. We would be happy to book another trip with Gunnar.

Gunnar is a lovely gentleman, soft spoken and considerate. I felt relaxed and comfortable on his tour as a solo female. He's thoughtful of restroom stops which I appreciated! I would highly recommend Gunnar, he will ask you what else you'd like to do and accommodate. He is so well travelled and highly knowledgeable on all things Alaska! Without a doubt - make sure you pay the extra to actually hike the glacier, it's worth every cent, a truly spectacular experience. Gunnar patiently waited in his car for hours whilst I was off on the glacier hike. Thanks again!

I had such an amazing time exploring Alaska! The scenery was absolutely beautiful—snowy mountains, crystal-clear lakes, wildlife... just wow. Every day was filled with something cool and unforgettable. What really made the trip extra special was our guide Gunnar. Super knowledgeable and really kind, and totally listened to what we wanted to do. He knew all the best spots and was super easy to talk to, which made everything more fun and relaxed. If you're thinking about going to Alaska, definitely go—and if you can, go with Gunnar, the best guide. He made the whole experience smooth, exciting, and just plain awesome.

Gunnar is great! His knowledge of history and wildlife of the area is amazing. He is pleasant, polite, funny and will really work with you to make sure your time is spent seeing the things in which you are most interested. He is a safe driver, his Jeep is comfortable and he knows where to go to get the best photos! My husband and I traveled all over Alaska for 2 1/2 weeks and we both agree that our time spent with Gunnar was the best part of our trip. If we ever get back to Anchorage again, he is who we would want to show us around.

We had a terrific day with Gunnar. We saw the Matanuska Glacier and river valley and lots of other beautiful sights. Fabulous lunch at Grand View (do try the carrot cake!). The weather miraculously cleared and was darn near warm. Great day. Highly, highly suggest you tour with Gunnar.

The day spent with Gunnar was delightful as we were able to visit many different spots (viewpoints, local villages, little known cultural locations and of course, the amazing Matanuska Glacier ). The stop at the cemetery in Eklutna was particularly memorable. Gunnar's obvious passion for the area and desire to share it with visitors was much appreciated. He has a wealth of knowledge that he willingly shares. He made our Alaska visit so much better than it would have been on our own! Thank you Gunnar!
