Explore Kauai your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Kauai tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Kauai for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Paddle the Wailua River to Uluwehi (Secret) Falls or hike short rim trails in Waimea Canyon, and stop at Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge to spot red-footed boobies and nēnē near the lighthouse.

Layover tours: From Līhu‘e Airport, fit in Wailua Falls, a stroll at Kalapaki Beach, and a quick bowl at Hamura Saimin, with timed drop-off back at your gate and luggage handled so you can relax.

Food and Drink tours: Taste fresh poke and plate lunch from trusted local spots, sample small-batch rum at Kōloa Rum Company’s tasting room at Kilohana, and hit a farmers’ market for apple bananas and taro chips before a pint at Kauai Beer Company.

Public transit is limited and distances are long, so private transportation makes tours smoother; you can book chauffeured tours or ask your guide to include door-to-door service.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Kauai inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Kauai

Base yourself on Kauai and branch out to nearby coasts, canyons, and small towns, since short day trips let you cover a lot of ground in one day and your tour can be set up around the hikes, viewpoints, and beach time you want.

Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe: Drive scenic ridge roads to sweeping lookouts, walk short trails among native forest, and catch views toward the Nāpali cliffs, which suits hikers, photographers, and anyone who wants big scenery without a long trek.

North Shore with Hanalei and Kīlauea Point: Stroll Hanalei Pier and the taro fields, browse small shops and food trucks, then take in clifftop ocean views near the lighthouse, a good mix of beach time, casual eats, and bird watching.

Wailua River and East Side: Combine easy viewpoints like ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls with a paddle or boat ride on the Wailua River and a stop at coastal paths in Kapaʻa, a simple plan for families, history fans, and paddlers who want calm water and island stories on a relaxed tour.

Poʻipū and the South Shore: Snorkel in clear coves, see Spouting Horn blowhole, and wander Old Kōloa town for plantation-era streets and shave ice, a low‑key day for beach lovers and anyone keen on short walks, marine life, and sunset light.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Kauai most travellers miss.
