"As long as Thessaloniki exists, no one can ever feel like an outcast" (N. Choumnos, 14th-c) Hello, and welcome! My name is Panagiotis. I feel content that Thessaloniki—the most charming and hospitable city in Greece—has always been my home. After finishing high school, I decided to channel my passion for the past into studying History and Archaeology at Aristotle University, where I earned my BA. Today, as a fully licensed tour guide throughout Greece, I share the endless stories of my city with travelers who are fascinated by history, art, theology, architecture, and archaeology—or who are simply interested in exploring Thessaloniki through the eyes of a local. I offer a wide variety of tours—some of which you won’t find listed here on Tours by Locals. Whether you’re looking to explore the past, take an interesting walk through our vibrant neighborhoods, or follow culinary trails through Thessaloniki’s famous flavors, I would be more than happy to assist you. In just a few minutes or hours from Thessaloniki—Philippi, Beroea (Veria), Xanthi, Kastoria, Florina, Lake Kerkini, Meteora, Pella, Vergina, and many more—Northern Greece always offers pleasant surprises that meet all kinds of travelers' expectations. Feel free to get in touch with me and plan the perfect itinerary. Enjoy your stay in Greece! Credentials: • BA in History & Archaeology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki • Licensed & Qualified Tourist Guide, University of the Aegean (Rhodes) • Certificate of Proficiency in English, University of Michigan • HeriQ Certificate in Heritage Storytelling, Quality Interpretation No restrictions.

November 30, 2024: After endless delays, heated debates, and significant missteps, twelve Thessaloniki's Underground Metro Stations finally opened their doors to the public. During the excavations, over 300,000 artifacts, including around 4,000 tombs, were uncovered. 2,300 years of history unfolded before our eyes! On this tour, we visit the three metro stations which reveal the “city beneath the city”. We see the remarkable discoveries made by the archaeologists during the Metro’s construction and reflect on the huge opportunity the city missed to preserve more underground sites. How do locals feel after years of waiting? How do we view the balance between modernization and preserving Thessaloniki’s heritage? What does the future hold for a city at the crossroads of history and progress? These are just some of the questions we will seek to answer as we uncover this unique chapter in Thessaloniki's story.
- Meet near the old city walls - Visit the Sintrivani Metro Station (showcases - inside the metro station) - Visit the Hagia Sofia Metro Station (the ruins of the Byzantine city - outside the metro station) - Visit the Venizelou Metro Station (the ruins of the Byzantine city - inside the metro station)
