Hello everybody! My name is Nikos. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki and this is where I make a living as a professional licensed tourist guide since 2014. I do hold a Bachelor's degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Ioannina and a Master's degree in Black Sea Cultural Studies from Thessaloniki's International University, but I strongly believe that a guided tour should not be only about facts and dates. It should also be about the place itself: the people, the anecdotes, the stories that do not fit in history books. So, hopefully, together we are going to not only explore the history and the sights of this magnificent place but also feel the beating heart of the city. I have been providing tours professionally in Thessaloniki and all over Greece for over a decade now, but every time feels like a fresh start. There is nothing like being outside, in the open air, with good company and showing the place you love, sharing the details and secrets that make it special. And if I can show you why this place is special to me, then it will become special to you too! I have a few tours planned but, please, do not hesitate to ask me about anything you might want anywhere in northern Greece or maybe all over the country. Alexander the 3rd has been, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating personalities that ever existed. He was the king of Macedonia who managed to create one of the largest empires the world had seen by that time. In this tour we are going to explore two places of great significance for Alexander, both of which were, at some point, capitals of the Macedonian kingdom: Aigai (or Vergina nowadays) - the place where Alexander's father was buried, one of the most amazing and interesting archaeological sites in the whole country, and Pella - Alexander's birthplace and center of the world during his reign. We are going to visit ancient tombs, see beautiful mosaics laying on the floors of marvellous mansions, admire precious golden artifacts and learn all about ancient Macedonia and its most well known king - Alexander the Great. Of course this tour can be customised to your special interests and needs!
Niko’s tour was actually the best of the 6 tours that I did while visiting Turkey and Greece. Nikos is funny, knowledgeable, and all around an interesting person to talk to. I went on several tours through our cruise ship that were so bad. Fascinating places, terrible guides. It was like they were reading a script to us. I wish Nikos could have been our guide on all of our tours! I highly recommend his Alexander the Great tour.
We very much enjoyed our visit to Vergina and Pella with Nikos. His knowledge is immense and he shares it in an interesting and engaging manner. He is a fascinating guide, and we will definitely book another tour with him when we return to Thessaloniki.
Nikos is a fantastic guide. We really enjoyed his company, his sense of humor and most importantly his knowledge of history and everywhere we went. He had an ability to make the entire day extremely interesting, even the parts that weren't as interesting at face value which is a real talent. We really enjoyed our day. The highlight was definitely the Tombs. I won't say much, except he hyped it up a bit and I was concerned it wouldn't meet expectations. I was wrong. Highly recommend Nikos.
Nikos was an amazing tour guide for Thessaloniki! He knows more about history than anyone I've ever met! He was great at explaining everything to us. He also took us to a place for lunch between the two sites that had amazing Greek food - the best moussaka my son had on the entire trip. We weren't sure what to expect as this was a stop on our cruise - Nikos exceeded expectation and we were so impressed with the sites we saw. We would highly recommend Nikos as a tour guide. He's more knowledgeable than any other guide we've ever had and he's fun and entertaining.
This tour was exceptional. The knowledge, thoughtfulness, facility in English, and energy of our guide was extraordinary, and as a result my husband and I were fascinated with everything we were learning. An experience of a lifetime.
Nikos is a deeply informed and gifted teacher, as well as enthusiastic, kind and considerate. The museum at Aigai/Vergina was utterly fascinating, and Nikos' guidance through it added perspective you would not get on your own. This was a rewarding and wonderful day!
We begin the tour with a 1-hour drive to the village of Vergina. There we have a guided tour of the Royal tombs of the Macedonian Kings. Then, we drive for about an hour to the city of Pella where we visit the museum and the archaeological site. After a short drive of about 45 mins, we arrive back to Thessaloniki. Of course lunch is an option whenever we feel hungry!
