Hello everybody! My name is Nikos. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki and this is where I make a living as a professional licensed tourist guide since 2014. I do hold a Bachelor's degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Ioannina and a Master's degree in Black Sea Cultural Studies from Thessaloniki's International University, but I strongly believe that a guided tour should not be only about facts and dates. It should also be about the place itself: the people, the anecdotes, the stories that do not fit in history books. So, hopefully, together we are going to not only explore the history and the sights of this magnificent place but also feel the beating heart of the city. I have been providing tours professionally in Thessaloniki and all over Greece for over a decade now, but every time feels like a fresh start. There is nothing like being outside, in the open air, with good company and showing the place you love, sharing the details and secrets that make it special. And if I can show you why this place is special to me, then it will become special to you too! I have a few tours planned but, please, do not hesitate to ask me about anything you might want anywhere in northern Greece or maybe all over the country. Overview of your Thessaloniki tour
The ancient city of Philippi in the prefecture of Kavala is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites one can visit. Once conquered by Macedonian King Philip II, Alexander the Great's father, who gave the city his name, later became one of the most important Roman cities of the area. This is where Paul the Apostle came to preach Christianity and where he created the first European Christian church. The city flourished because of that and the ruins of huge Christian churches can be found to this day, some of them still standing! In the nearby baptistery of Lydia we will visit the place where the first European person, a woman named Lydia, was baptised and where adult baptisms still take place to this day. Of course, no visit to the area would be considered full without enjoying a beautiful walk around the nearby city of Kavala, one of the most beautiful cities of northern Greece.

NIkos was the best. Did a private (just my wife and I) tour of Thessoloniki, Kavala and Phillipi. Was the best excursion of our whole cruise! He was so knowledgeable, friendly and adaptive to our desires and questions. Highly recommend this tour and tour guide, well worth the money especially if you love history!

It was so nice to have Nikos pick us up at the airport and to be able to immediately begin our tour, to get a view of city of Thessaloniki from the monastery on top of a hill and to visit a couple of important churches in the city and then to go to the ruins of Philippi which is a wonderful archeological site and to see where the first Christian baptisms were performed in Europe. We appreciate Nikos customizing the tour so we could visit both sites in the same day. He was great.
Your Thessaloniki tour itinerary
The drive from Thessaloniki to Philippi is approximately 1.5 hours. We will visit the archaeological site of Philippi and the baptistry of Lydia. The city of Kavala is very close. Over there we can enjoy a beautiful walk among the narrow streets of the Old Town and have something to eat before heading back to Thessaloniki.
