I studied in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated with a BA in History and Archaeology. I left for London, UK where I lived for six years. I never stopped missing home, so I decided to return. Apart from guiding, I am a doctoral candidate in the Aristotle University in History and Moral Philosophy. I sing and have a deep connection with music and I truly love animals. I am a faithful lover of history and philosophy and thus decided to share my passion with travellers and become a tourist guide. I haven't looked back since. It is a job in which I feel I have found my true self. I am based in Thessaloniki, but I deliver tours all around Northern Greece, thematically and spatially diverse. I strongly believe that guides are cultural ambassadors of their land and as such they are tasked with providing an, above all, authentic outlook into the world they originate from. This is my main principle when providing tours. I am licensed to guide throughout Greece, but I am very much in love, for life, with Thessaloniki and the region of Macedonia. This tour will take us to Vergina (ancient name Aigai) the first capital of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom. It is here that the Macedonians assumed their identity. It is here that Philip II was assassinated and Alexander the Great was declared king of the Macedonians in 336 BC. We will visit the Royal tombs of Vergina/Aigai, a globally unique site/museum where we will examine the amazing findings of the unlooted tomb of Philip II and of the young prince. These findings are unique and serve as a window into the lives and history of the ancient Macedonians. Later on, we will move to the brand new museum of Aigai with a plethora of very interesting exhibits from the ancient Macedonian capital and the nearby cemeteries and sanctuaries of the ancient gods, as well as an amazing exhibition of coins that provides an outlook into the campaign of Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic times. A visit to the newly opened site of the royal palace of Philip II can be added. I can customize this tour to your needs.
Our guide was exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable, bringing the history of the Hellenistic period and ancient Macedonian to life with fascinating stories and context. This was a great tour! Dimitrios was knowledgeable about the ancient Macedonians and worked with me to change the tour slightly to include the Palace of Aigai. He timed the pickup and stops perfectly so that we beat the crowds. It was a half day tour. So, we would have had time to explore in town after if we weren't so tired. (Not Dimitrios' fault. This stop was the last on a two week trip that had a lot of activities and walking.) I would highly recommend booking him for any tour.
Dimitrios was a friendly and knowledgeable guide for the day. He added a great deal to the sights and museum exhibits, which were themselves amazing.
Dimitrios customized a tour for my family of Vergina, the Palace of Philip, and the town of Thessaloniki. He brought with him a great driver and shared his knowledge of the history of Greece throughout the day. We enjoyed the visit and learned many new things during our tour.
This tour was one of a few tours privately arranged for a group of four adults, spread over four days. The itinerary was put together with advice from Demitrious and proved to be excellent, exactly what we wanted. An unavoidable change, late in the tour (one of the sites was closed) was quickly adjusted for with a replacement tour substituted easily and quickly. Demetrious proved to be an excellent guide, knowledgeable and personable with great enthusiasm for Greek history ancient and modern, and a real skill for putting the sweep of history into context. His English was superb, as you'd expect from someone who lived and worked in the UK for so long. He really added huge value to the entire holiday - highly recommended.
We visited sites in Delphi, Athens, and the islands cruising with Tauck before we took a driving tour of Northern Greece on our own. This tour was the best experience of all of them!!!
