"Whoever travels without a guide, needs two hundred years for a two-day journey. " (Rumi, 13th century AD) Hello dear travellers. I am Dimitrios. I was born in Thessaloniki and grew up in the city. I studied in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated with a BA in History and Archaeology. I left for London, UK where I lived for six years. I never stopped missing home, so I decided to return. Apart from guiding, I am a doctoral candidate in the Aristotle University in History and Moral Philosophy. I sing and have a deep connection with music and I truly love animals. I am a faithful lover of history and philosophy and thus decided to share my passion with travellers and become a tourist guide. I haven't looked back since. It is a job in which I feel I have found my true self. I am based in Thessaloniki, but I deliver tours all around Northern Greece, thematically and spatially diverse. I strongly believe that guides are cultural ambassadors of their land and as such they are tasked with providing an, above all, authentic outlook into the world they originate from. This is my main principle when providing tours. I am licensed to guide throughout Greece, but I am very much in love, for life, with Thessaloniki and the region of Macedonia. Thessaloniki and the wider geographical region of Macedonia have so much to offer to a traveller and have indeed managed to maintain much of their originality. I cordially invite you to book a tour to experience northern Greece in the fullest or get in touch so we can create your one-of-a-kind tour together. - BA in History & Archaeology-Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. - Licensed & Qualified Tourist Guide-Alumnus of the 2-year School of Tourist Guides of Thessaloniki of the Greek Ministry of Tourism. - Master's Degree (MSc)-SOAS, University of London. - Master's Degree (MA)-King's College London. - PhD candidate in History and Moral Philosophy in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. No restrictions.

Overview of your Thessaloniki tour

Thessaloniki, since its foundation in 315 BC, has always remained a very important city in the Eastern Mediterranean. Controlled by the Kingdom of Macedon, the Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Venetians, Ottoman Turks and the modern Greek state. Conquered by Saracens and Normans and inhabited by Christians, Jews and Muslims, it is the definition of an inter-temporal city. ''From Tower to Tower'' is specifically designed to give you just that. A sense of this beautiful inter-temporal city and of all the ethnic and religious communities and empires that have ever existed in it. Furthermore, to give you a strong authentic taste of the multiculturalism that has been the very fabric of the city throughout its existence. This tour is ideal for people with limited time in the city that wish to receive the most authentic experience possible in the shortest amount of time. This tour can be customized to suit your needs.

Demitrios was our guide in Thessaloniki, and this was our first walking tour of the trip. We didn't know much about the city beforehand, but by the end we had a whole new appreciation for it. One of the things we loved most was the walking since it allowed us to experience Thessaloniki through its neighborhoods, its vibes, and its everyday life rather than simply driving from one stop to the next. Moving through the city on foot helped us connect the history to the modern city around us. Since Dimitrios grew up in this city, he wove his own experiences into the history in a way that made everything feel personal and engaging. We started at the Citadel with incredible views, wandered through Ano Poli, visited the Basilica of Saint Demetrius, strolled through the market and eventually made our way to the waterfront by the White Tower. Each stop revealed another layer of the city's past, and it was interesting to see how different civilizations left their mark. If you're looking for more than just a sightseeing tour, I'd definitely recommend Dimitrios. From Emily and the Farr Family

Demetrios is an exceptional guide - a true gem. Over two full days he led us through the historic heart of Thessaloniki — Aristotle Square, the markets, the Arch of Galerius, the Basilica of Hagios Demetrios, the Ano Poli, and up to the Heptapyrgion citadel, just to name a few — bringing each site to life with real depth. One of his great gifts is untangling the layers of the city’s history in a logical order which is so inspiring. He laid out the sequence so it finally made sense: the original Greek (Macedonian) foundation, then the Roman era, the long Byzantine centuries, and finally the Ottoman period — and showed us how each one left its mark on the streets and monuments around us. His depth and level of professionalism is the real draw. A Thessaloniki local who earned his PhD in London — living there throughout his studies — he combines an insider’s feel for the city with serious scholarship. He has complete command of the Macedonian story: King Philip II and Alexander the Great, and the work surrounding the royal tombs at Vergina and the discoveries at Pella. He walked us through the history of the Vergina excavations — the search for the Macedonian kings, the case for Philip II’s burial, and the more recent finds — with a clarity and passion you simply don’t get from a script. He’s also a wonderful guide to Thessaloniki’s renowned food culture, pointing us toward the markets and tables that have made the city one of Greece’s great gastronomic destinations. Generous, warm, and genuinely expert. Highly recommended. We thank him so much for teaching us about a city and its history that he so loves. Paul and Jeff

The tour with Dimitrios was simply OUTSANDING. His knowledge and understanding of the history of this city is truly amazing. The tour was not only informative, but his personality and humor made this tour quite an educational and entertaining day. He knows this town inside and out … from growing here from child to his educational accomplishments with 2 Masters degrees in regional history and Geo-political. We highly recommend you select Dimitrios!!!

Dimitrios was a superb guide. He allowed us to go at our pace and answered a ton of questions. He is so knowledgeable about the history and culture of Thessaloniki and of Greece and Macedonia. He explained about political actions and their consequences. He showed where we had been and where we were going which was quite enjoyable. We highly recommend Dimitrios as a tour guide and will rebook with him when we return. You will have a fantastic experience if you choose this tour.
