Hello everybody! My name is Nikos. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki and this is where I make a living as a professional licensed tourist guide since 2014. I do hold a Bachelor's degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Ioannina and a Master's degree in Black Sea Cultural Studies from Thessaloniki's International University, but I strongly believe that a guided tour should not be only about facts and dates. It should also be about the place itself: the people, the anecdotes, the stories that do not fit in history books. So, hopefully, together we are going to not only explore the history and the sights of this magnificent place but also feel the beating heart of the city. I have been providing tours professionally in Thessaloniki and all over Greece for over a decade now, but every time feels like a fresh start. There is nothing like being outside, in the open air, with good company and showing the place you love, sharing the details and secrets that make it special. And if I can show you why this place is special to me, then it will become special to you too! Breathtaking scenery and centuries old monasteries - private tour
Overview of your Thessaloniki tour
I have visited the Meteora monasteries many times and each time feels like the first one because each time I feel a brand new astonishment for the magnitude and beauty of these rocks! There is something about this place. Something that makes me hold my breath every time I see the rocks from afar and makes me want to climb them again and again! Visiting the holy rocks of Meteora is definitely a unique experience. The monasteries, those still working after hundreds of years, and those abandoned, stand on top of these rocks imposing themselves upon the valley of Thessaly. It is a place of holy introspection and natural awe at the same time, a must visit for travellers in Greece. I would be very happy to share with you my love for this place, show you the monasteries, discuss the monks' way of life and the history of the area. Of course the tour would not be complete without a visit to the nearby town of Kalabaka for lunch!
Your Thessaloniki tour itinerary
- The drive from Thessaloniki is approximately 3 hours long however there is a lot to be seen and said along the way. - Upon arrival we will visit two of the following monasteries: • Monastery of Transfiguration • Monastery of Roussanou • Monastery of St. Stephen • Monastery of Varlaam • Monastery of the Holy Trinity • Monastery of St. Nicolas Anapafsas *Which two, depends on the day of visit since each monastery has varying hours that they're open to the public* - At the monasteries we will admire the astonishing view, visit the churches and the museums, see some great examples of Christian frescoes and learn about the history of the place and the monks' way of life. - Before our way back, our driver will take us for lunch to the town of Kalabaka.
