The ancient city of Amphipolis. A day trip.

We will visit the ancient city of Amphipolis and more specifically, the archaeological site, the archaeological museum, the northern walls, the tower of Marmarion and the Lion of Amphipolis. Amphipolis was a very important city in Macedonia and we will explore aspects of its rich history. The city was founded by Athenian colonists in the 5th century BC and was one of the most important cities of the Greek world for many centuries. It is related to the history of the Peloponnesian war between Athens and Sparta, as mentioned by Thucydides, due to its strategic importance.
