Guide #46413
I was born and raised in Athens and Mesologi, a small town in the west of Greece - a scenic but rather tired fishermen town that carries a heavy historic load. There, one day in high school, a new history teacher came in and in her opening statement she used a phrase that would haunt me forever : "He, who doesn't know the how and why of the last 3000 years, lives in the darkness of ignorance, from one day to the next. ", by Goethe. I instantly became a history buff, but soon I was lured by the sirens of Political and Economic Sciences. Then, my academic Odyssey passed the turbulent waters of the Greek economic crisis that swept me over to the island and University of Crete, where I finished my MSc in Economic Theory and Policy. While studying, I started working as a tour leader for groups of travelers and my passion for history was finally put to practice. By the time I was writing my thesis, on the "Rhetoric of economics and its performative aspects", I already knew that I needed a break from academia, towards more experiential knowledge. After travelling around for some years, I realized the value of a good tour guide and made it my goal to become one. I enrolled in the National School of Licenced Guides, and since 2015 I have been working with English and French speaking guests from around the world. When not working or travelling, I read, practice aerial acrobatics, gymnastics and yoga, play with my cat, search for that perfect wine and try to balance between a Stoic attitude and an Epicurean lifestyle. Elias was a one-in-a-million tour guide. His breadth and depth of knowledge are unmatched; he is kind and thoughtful; and he personalized our tour in a way that made our day. When I told him that our son was still recovering from being sick and wouldn't have a ton of energy for sightseeing in the heat, he managed to get us a ceramics workshop with a local artist...

A very knowledgeable walk, covering many things, loved the food sampling at shops I would never known of. The talk at the top was comprehensive. Much walking.
