Hello Travellers! My name is Silvia - Silviaki for my Greek friends - and I am a historian and licensed tour guide living in Athens. Both modern and ancient Greece have built on stories, and my own starts in Italy. Born and raised in a very little town near Milan, drawn by my passion for Ancient History and Archaeology, I enrolled nine years ago as a PhD student in Athens University, a choice I have never regretted. Communicating and sharing with people is something I see as fundamental to life as breathing. Tours let me combine my passions for the Ancient World and architecture with the joy of meeting, talking and laughing with people through genuine connections. In my free time, my little car and I go to explore archaeological sites, museums, Greece's incredible and varied nature, always trying to find my new favorite Greek dish! The country has so much to offer me and everyone that, no matter how much of it I see, I know that it is only the surface. My favorite tours are those based on history, archaeology and art, and I very much enjoy finding connections between the Ancient World and the modern. I try to contrast the more academic side of my tours with the fun, frivolous and unexpected. There is beauty to be discovered behind an ancient building, be it a modern artwork or an incredibly tasty baklava! The majority of my tours are Athens-based but I can help you escape from the city for one or more days, offering tours full of history, culture and nature throughout Greece based on your needs and interests. Looking forward to meeting you and introducing you to my second and now first home! Silvia B. Licensed Tour Guide (Greek Ministry of Tourism) PhD in Ancient History (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) Master Degree in Roman History (Università di Roma Tor Vergata) Bachelor Degree in Human Science (Università degli studi di Pavia) I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

What is a kouros? What did the Ancient Greek people believe about the afterlife? Whose statue was raised from the waters of Cape Artemision? Who were the people of Mycaenae and Santorini? These questions and many others will answered and explained during our tour of Greece's largest museum, the National Archaeological Museum. Armed with my PhD in Ancient History I will share with you my knowledge and passion for ancient history and art to expose for you the roots of modern Greece. We'll discover the Archaic and Classical Greek Art, Roman masterpieces, and much more! I believe that any journey is a chance to enrich our knowledge and awareness of far peoples and cultures. With this in mind I will arrange my tour by focusing on you, how we can view the ancient world and its roots together and so truly appreciate the footprints we follow. As part of our tour we will also explore the imposing and beautiful 19th century building which houses the museum, looking at it within its historical and cultural framework.
We will meet at the museum or a location nearby depending on your preference. As this is the largest museum in Greece, I will show you the highlights of the collection along with the most interesting and significative objects and subjects. You will have time to enjoy the objects and stories as well as discussing together how they link with each other and later history. That way you can easily digest all you see and hear, keeping your mind fresh as we go through the rooms. We will start in the depths of Greece's past, the 3rd Millennium BC, before travelling through the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic eras and ending with the absorption of Greek culture into the Roman Empire. Moreover, 3rd Millennium Cycladic masterpieces and the gold of Mycaenae are waiting for us to hear their stories! At the end of the tour I help guide you back to your hotel or give you more information about what else you can see in Athens as well as how to get there! So, walking shoes (sandals) on and πάμε (we go)!
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
The tour in the museum will be all on walk.
