Hi there! I am Stelios! A Greek licensed guide and archaeologist. Born and raised in Athens, with origin from Santorini island. Passionate about greek history and art, my wife and two daughters, and my little bees. . . not necessarily in that order ;) As a child I grew up in the northwest outskirts of the center of the city of Athens. But the visits to the city where plenty, with my family, later on my own or with friends. For shopping, recreation, visits to sites and museums, libraries, work. . . Two important events in my life took place at the foot of the Acropolis, in Plaka, known as "the neighbourhood of the gods": I was baptized and got married there, in two of the oldest churches of the city. So, trust me, I know the area . . . I studied archaeology in the University of Ioannina, in nortwestern Greece. Commenced as a classical archaeologist but finally specialized in the byzantine-medieval period, that attracted me more, because there are so many aspects of that period not very well known to the majority of the people, yet so close to the way of life that the Greeks have been following for centuries. After completing my mandatory military service in the Greek Navy, I started working as archaeologist in excavations and restorations in many areas of Greece. Until 2014, when I decided to combine that background with tourism, share my love and knowledge for greek culture with people from all over the world. And I have not regreted that decision at all! A visit to Greece, and especially to Athens, is like going back to your roots! As a French author wrote "worlds' history starts with the awakening of the Greek spirit". Athens is one of the places where that awakening took place. So, the visit to Athens is a visit - some would say a "pilgrimage" - to the city where some of the foundations of the modern civilisation have been set. The Acropolis is definitely the highlight. But it is not the only one. There are so many different things to see and do in Athens, regarding history, art, architecture, food, amazing views and hidden gems, stories of courage and dignity. . . It is worth experiencing all those, becoming "a lover of this city", as an ancient Athenian statesman had said. But in order to succeed in it, to get correct and reliable information and make the right correlations, you need a LICENSED TOUR GUIDE! This is very clear by the regulations of the country and we have to comply with them. Well, you found him! And a really experienced one. I am here to help you create unforgetable memories. Give you responsible answers to any questions you may have about the past or the present of my country and its people. I would enjoy walking around with you, following one of my tours or one that we can customize according to your interests. Besides knowledge, sincerity and "philotimo" are some of my characteristics that you will surely appreciate. If necessary, I will walk the extra mile with you, in order to enjoy your visit in its entirety. My aim is to help you become "philhellenes", friends of Greece! Let us begin! Licensed Tourist Guide since 2014 (Diploma from the Greek Ministry of Tourism and the University of Athens) Archaeologist (University of Ioannina) Proficiency in English Language (University of Cambridge) First Aid Certificate (Greek Red Cross) I don't drive while guiding, I don't guide while driving! Safety reasons! I want to be able to point out and explain every monument that we will be passing by, without worrying about traffic. If needed, I can provide transportation and professional driver.

Overview of your Athens tour

Has it ever crossed your mind what happened in Athens after the ancient times? After the Acropolis? What was the Medieval period like? What was the Byzantine Empire? You will hear refferences to this term while in Greece, or if you visit Turkey or Italy, yet it is covered in a fog of mystery. Why is it named like that? What is its relation to Greece? Is it similar to the medieval period of western Europe? Most intriguing: which is its relation to the Renaissance? These and many other questions will be answered by me, a licensed guide and archaeologist specialized in the Byzantine period. This is an utmost interesting museum, one of the best in the world regarding this period, renovated and extended in recent years. It is guaranteed that you will be impressed!

Stelios is an absolute professional. Deep knowledge about his subject matter the culture, people, and lives of Ancient Greece. We are using him for 4 tours and all have been outstanding from the timing to his driver. He was also considerate in thinking about a health issue in the amount of walking and stairs we needed to cover each day. We have used TBL multiple times from Scotland , London, and Italy and Stelios is by far the best of them. If you want to understand the history of Ancient Greece - how the people and Gods lived together - and day to day life - he is a great choice. Good restaurant recommendations too.

Stelios is a wonderful guide. His speaks English clearly without a heavy accent, so he is easy to understand. I so enjoyed his explanations of the Temple, the ruins and the key items in the Agora Museum. Being an archeologist, he loves being by the ruins and sharing his knowledge about them. Seeing the Temple helped me to envision how the Parthenon must have looked originally. I did the Acropolis and Agora tours back to back. It was extremely hot by the time we got to Agora. I hurt my knees prior to arriving in Athens. I would not have made it without his significant assistance helping me up and down the steps and slippery areas of the path. Even though we took longer than the scheduled tour time, he never rushed me. He encouraged me to rest in the shade and helped me take great pictures. I highly recommend him as a guide, but suggest doing Acropolis and Agora on different day

We were in Athens and did an Agora tour with Stelios on November 5th. It was excellent and I would highly recommend him. He has an incredible knowledge and history of Athens and specifically the Agora. We loved the time we spent with him. Don't hesitate at all to book with him!!

Your Athens tour itinerary

• We can meet at Syntagma square, today's downtown Athens, where the Parliament and the Presidential Guards are. After some information about those, we will start a very pleasant, fifteen minutes walk towards the museum, during which we will enjoy century-old mansions, used for other purposes nowadays. • The National Garden will be on our right and - if you wish - we may have a slight detour so as to see the barracks of the Presidential Guards, the Prime Minister's and the President's Houses, as well as the archaeological site of the School of Aristotle, the famous ancient Greek philosopher! • Then we will enter the forecourt of a mid-19th c. mansion, surrounded by lush gardens, which partially houses the Byzantine museum. • After visiting it, you may decide to have a light lunch at the peaceful cafe-restaurant of the museum. Nearby are four other interesting museums, which you may wish to visit later on your own. Can be combined with the Hidden gem tour.
