My name is Anastasia and I am an archeologist, an art historian, and a licensed tour guide since 2014. My working languages are English, Italian, and Greek. I was born and raised in Athens where I took also my first degree in Greek Archeology and History of Art at the University of Athens. Later I moved abroad for postgraduate studies in Italian Art history In Warwick-England, Glasgow-Scotland, and Fribourg- Switzerland. Therefore I lived for a prolonged time in other European cities mostly in England, Scotland, and Italy. I've also worked in different positions in the history of Art ( various museums, art galleries, and institutions like the Fondazione Cini in Venice) as an archeologist in the American School for Classical Studies in Athens and as a lecturer in different educational institutes. I consider myself a citizen of the world and I do enjoy bringing people together and immersing them in the beauty and culture of my country. Art history is my passion and I am a keen reader and traveler. Apart from art history, I love cinema, photography, fashion, and most of all wine since I am a certified expert in wine having a set 3rd level in Wine and Spirits I do believe that the world of Wine is inspirational and fascinating. Therefore the range of my tours varies. I organize and offer archeological and art-historical tours in all the big museums and archeological sites, wine tours, and wine tastings for wine lovers. I also provide tailor-made tours that match my visitors' interests and passions. I believe that Culture, Wine, and Travel bring people together and two of my favorite quotes are "The world is my oyster" and "The world is a book, and those that do not travel read only a page. 1. During this tour, we will talk about the beginning of the Greek country after the liberation from the Turks in 1831. We will discuss the first years of Athens as the capital city of Greece and the arrival of the first Greek king Otto, how he was received, and how he governed Athens. We will live the development of the city in the second half of the 19th century by admiring the great neoclassical architecture and we will talk about the first parliament and the institution of Democracy in Greece. We can choose to walk up to the Panathinaic stadium to relive the great moments of the First Olympic games of the modern era in 1896 or we can walk to admire architecture from the 20th century talking about the development of the city after the Second World War and the dictatorship of the military regime between 1967 -74. By the end of the tour you will have a better understanding of the city but also of Greek history.
We will walk through the centre of the city discovering the most important landmarks, such as the Parliament, the first Royal residence, the Cathedral, the Royal Gardens, and the neoclassical architecture of the 19th century including the famous Trilogy. We will come in contact with the architecture of the Hansen brothers, of Tsiller, of Boulanger, the first great Architects. Finally and as the historical narrative will bring us to the 20th century, we will be able to explore some of the Greek contemporary architects, such as Doxiadis, Vourekas, Despotopoulos, and the Athenian contemporary Bauhaus architecture by strolling around the Hilton Hotel, the Conservatory of Athens, the National Hellenic Research Foundation. etc. We will end up in Exarchia to explore two of the most characteristic neighborhoods of the Athenian centre. This tour does not include visits to museums or archeological sites. So get inside your most comfortable shoes and let's sweep through the City.
