My name is Anastasia and I am an archeologist, an art historian, and a licensed tour guide since 2014. My working languages are English, Italian, and Greek. I was born and raised in Athens where I took also my first degree in Greek Archeology and History of Art at the University of Athens. Later I moved abroad for postgraduate studies in Italian Art history In Warwick-England, Glasgow-Scotland, and Fribourg- Switzerland. Therefore I lived for a prolonged time in other European cities mostly in England, Scotland, and Italy. I've also worked in different positions in the history of Art ( various museums, art galleries, and institutions like the Fondazione Cini in Venice) as an archeologist in the American School for Classical Studies in Athens and as a lecturer in different educational institutes. I consider myself a citizen of the world and I do enjoy bringing people together and immersing them in the beauty and culture of my country. Art history is my passion and I am a keen reader and traveler. Apart from art history, I love cinema, photography, fashion, and most of all wine since I am a certified expert in wine having a set 3rd level in Wine and Spirits I do believe that the world of Wine is inspirational and fascinating. Therefore the range of my tours varies. I organize and offer archeological and art-historical tours in all the big museums and archeological sites, wine tours, and wine tastings for wine lovers. I also provide tailor-made tours that match my visitors' interests and passions. I believe that Culture, Wine, and Travel bring people together and two of my favorite quotes are "The world is my oyster" and "The world is a book, and those that do not travel read only a page. 1. The majority of the visitors of Athens are mesmerized by the ancient Greek culture and heritage. However the Byzantium is an equally interesting and magnificent period in the life of this country. The Byzantine Empire from its foundation in 330 to its conquest by the Ottomans in 1453, lasted for a total of 1123 years. During those years Athens was slowly transformed in a new city that tried to absorb the new religion incorporating simultaneously ancient traditions. Therefore Athens becomes an interesting case of study, a hybrid between the triumphal ancient past and the purified Christian world. This tour will shed light at the most important landmarks of the byzantine heritage in Athens. Starting from a visit in the Museum of Byzantine Art we will be able to admire some of the most startling and beautiful objects of our Byzantine patrimony and we will be able to understand the evolution of the Byzantine Art starting from the early Christian period to the aftermath of the Fall of Constantinople in 1453.
The museum is retrospective so we will be able to discover the early christian years of Constantine the Great, Theodosios A and B and Justinian and to understand the beginning of the new religion and the artistic changes in the Architecture or in the everyday life of the New Romans. We will talk about the transformation of the Parthenon in Byzantine church and for the emergence of a new Iconography to serve a new civic and religious identiy . We will understand the function of the Icons and their relationship with the rituals and the great differences between the western catholic and the eastern orthodox art.
