Let's Talk About Museums Series - NAM

Allow me to guide you to the Museum I have been collaborating as an archaeologist for years. Visit to one of the most influencing museums in the world. Get to know the history of its superb collections and their formation at the beginning of the 19th c. The building itself is neoclassical, designed originally by Ludwig Lange, completed later with contributions from Ernst Ziller. The Museum showcases artifacts from Greek prehistory through to Late Antiquity, over 11,000 exhibits on permanent display. A qustion arises: Why the NAM was offered to the Greek people during the second half of the 19th c.? Among the masterpieces of the museum, you can see: The bronze “Zeus or Poseidon” (from the Artemision wreck). Divers sculptures: kouroi & korai, various classical Greek statues etc. The “Unseen Museum” initiative: periodically exhibits items from the large store-collection that are not normally on display. Best to visit early in the morning, or later in the day, to avoid crowds.
