Hello !! My name is Spyridoula and I am a licensed Greek Guide, based in Athens, Greece. Being a licensed guide in Greece means that you have studied for 2 years in a special Guides Academy which is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Tourism and have traveled all over Greece for ad hoc training. Besides being a guide, I have a solid background in the cultural field. I am a specialist in Archives and Museums Studies as I hold a PHD in the field of Digital Humanities and a Post Doc in a combination of Digital Humanities- Sociology and Economics. I have been an active researcher and university professor- not continuously- in the above fields since 2009 . But I don't give lectures during my tours!! I like having fun with people, because I love people!! I have met people from all over the world, people of various backgrounds and ethnicities and every time I realize that despite our superficial differences, we have too many things in common. During this tour, you will visit two very important monasteries of the Area of Athens, which are archaeological sites today. It is a tour for people that wish to get to know christian architecure , history and art.The first one is the Monastery of Kaisariani, built at the end of the 11th centuy AD on the mountain of Ymittos. During its centuries-long operation, it experienced great prosperity. It was an important spiritual center, and its library held a large number of manuscripts. The monastery is located in the heart of a beautiful forest above Athens City Center. The second monastery, is the monastery of Dafni, listed in UNESCO World Heritage list. It is located 11 km from Athens Center and is built on the site where the Sanctuary of Apollo at Daphni existed. Its impressive architecture and the unique mosaic decoration of the monastery's church make it one of the most exceptional monuments of Byzantine art.
