Downtown Athens - Off the beaten track

A city walk through my favorite locations just north of the touristy city center. A great chance to get to know a different view of Athens streets. If you want to learn about Greek history, it will be right in front of you: archaeological sites in the middle of the square, statues and buildings. I am going to tell you all you like to know about them! The central market and some shopping streets around it haven't changed since they were opened in the beginning of the 19th century. You can find there all the traditional products that the locals buy. We will walk through the "wildest" neighborhood of Athens which is immersed in street art. A little bit of climbing, but then we will be on top of hill with a weird history and one of the best views on the Acropolis with all the rest of Athens at our feet.

- Meeting point is Monastiraki Square. - A part of the old neighborhood Psirri, the oldest shopping streets of Athens and the central market building. - The Kotzia square where we find the Town Hall, the National Bank, a public archaeological site - The 19th century Neoclassical Trilogy (National Library, University of Athens and Academy) - Exarcheia - the students', anarchists' and artists' neighborhood of the Technical University (Polytechneio) - Strefi Hill - a bit of climbing rewarded with one of the most spectacular view on the Acropolis and all of Athens at our feet, the mountains around the city and the sea at the horizon. - Walk back through Exarcheia and see the most impressive pieces of street art that tell the stories of this bohemian neighborhood - Walk back to Monastiraki (or any convenient place in the center) Any suggestions for an addition or a change are welcome!
