Classical Athens Extensive Walking Tour

We were a group of 4 who enjoyed a private tour of the Acropolis and Ancient Agora. Our guide Maria S., a trained archeologist, was exceptional. Maria was extremely adept at shepherding us to choice viewing spots away from the crowds and the day’s strong winds. The gatekeepers waved us in before others as soon as they recognized her as our guide. The quality of her narrative is where she truly shined. It felt like we were privy to a university seminar on the antiquities before us. We especially appreciated how she explained the past in relation to the present, which is not something that you necessarily get in a tour. In essence, if you choose Maria as your guide, you will have chosen a learned, passionate, and witty scholar, who brings the ruins alive for you through her knowledge. Thank you from all of us, Maria. You are a true ambassador of Greece’s rich ancient culture.

Maria provided a wonderful tour! Her depth of knowledge was incredible, and she filled every minute with interesting, in-depth detail, far more than what we would have received in a group tour.

Maria is amazing. Her knowledge of Greek history and her ability to relate it to the complexity of Greek language and philosophy was very impressive and inspiring. I studied ancient Greek language and philosophy in college and her insights were illuminating and very sophisticated. I hope to see her again.

We really enjoyed our tour with Maria. We hit the highlights and she did a great job giving us an overview of ancient Greece. We also appreciated getting to hear a bit about modern life in Greece - I enjoyed having a local. We had three teens with us and she was adaptive in making it interesting for everyone. She was proactive in communicating prior to the tour, which made things easy for first timers to Athens.

We had our walking tour with Maria today and it was just wonderful! We chose Maria for her archeology background and she was just full of knowledge...history, facts, dates, myths and stories of gods and armies, glimpses into ancient lives around the Acropolis - we are retired teachers, but today we were Maria's students! She taught us, answered all our questions, plus gave us great advice on navigating Athens,Plaka and Monastiraki for the rest of our visit. We feel like friends, and highly recommend her!!

Maria was wonderful! Lovely person, a wealth of knowledge. We all agreed that she gave just enough information ... in depth but not too much as the history of Greece is deep and rich. We loved every minute of the tour. So glad we got a guide, made a huge difference, and so glad it was Maria!
