Hello! My name is Ifigeneia but my friends call me Ifi (pronounced If-ee'). I am going to be your local guide in Athens . When I was young I was always wondering what I can do in order to see the world from another perspective and at the same time to earn when I am travelling. The answer was to become a tour guide. It is so fascinating to learn about history and culture of different countries, to meet new people while sharing my love of travel with people like you. My interest about history and archaeology made me more curious about the rich past of my beautiful country , Greece. There are so many archaeological sites and I was ready to explore them. I was born in Naoussa, a small town in the northern part of Greece close to one of the most famous places in the world, the school of Aristotle. I studied History and Archaeology with specialisation in history at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and hold a MA in Museology and Cultural Management from the same University. Later I decided to take more exams and now I hold a second Bachelor's degree in History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology with specialization in Archaeology from the University of Thessaly. I am also a licensed tourist Guide from the Ministry of Tourism and I am currently working as a tourist guide since 2013. It is a pleasure to meet new people from all over the world and share with them the history and the myths of my beautiful country. For the first time I visited Athens when I was at school and I fell in love with this place , the beautiful past and the myths that unveils. For about 10 years I was working as a tourist guide in Mykonos and Delos island. Mykonos , a cosmopolitan island , gave me many chances to meet new people and learn more about their culture and Delos island , a beautiful archaeological site , only 30 minutes far away from the bustling Mykonos, makes you feel that you travel in the past. Mykonos is known as "the island of the winds" and maybe the wind brought me here to Athens for a special reason. To make me explore with you this wonderful place. Almost after ten years of experience I decided to work in Athens , to make a new beginning and to work with passion as always . I am ready to explore the city with you . I love singing, travelling and watching good movies with some wine and good friends. I am very enthusiastic to introduce people to the city's history, culture and life. I am looking forward to meeting you. Please do not hesitate to contact me in case you want me to customize one of my tours. Welcome to Greece! As Melina Merkouri said : You must understand what the Parthenon marbles mean to us . They are our pride. They are our sacrifices . They are our noblest symbol of excellence. They are a tribute to the democratic philosophy. they are our inspirations and our name. Τhey are the essence of Greekness. In this 2h tour we are going to visit one of the most beautiful museums of Greece : the Acropolis museum . Exploring the three floors of the museum we are going to see artifacts by chronological order from the prehistoric times to Roman times , all discovered on the slopes of the Acropolis hill. The museum is relatively new to Athens, having opened less than a decade ago in 2009 to replace the too-small museum on Acropolis Hill. A visit has the power to put everything you'll see at the Acropolis into an amazingly vivid context, connecting the dots between the marble ruins and filling in the blanks of nearly 2, 500 years of history.
-meeting point at the metro station in Makrygianni street (early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds ). In case you travel on a cruise ship , you need extra transportation to get to the Acropolis hill . It is recommended that you use your own means of transportation. Taxi or metro is constantly available from the port of Piraeus to the city centre. It usually takes 30 minutes to arrive to the city Center. -Short introduction to the history of the city and of the museum having the opportunity to admire a real excavation in front of the museum -we continue with the basement of the museum talking about the artifacts that were found in the slopes of the Acropolis hill , the theatre of Dionysus and other minor sanctuaries -the first floor is dedicated to the archaic period -the third floor of the museum has all the architectural parts of the Parthenon and a wonderful view ***Note you are required to purchase the Tickets according to site availability at https://etickets.theacropolismuseum.gr/
