There are ample opportunities for taking pictures and resting along the way as the trip extends from tidewater of the Matanuska River in a northeasterly direction, witnessing the landscape change from flatlands to an alpine environment, and culminating at the viewing points within close proximity of the Matanuska Glacier. For those wanting to add on to the adventure even more, there is a possibility (for an extra charge) to register for a hiking tour up to the face and sides of the glacier for a truly intimate close-up encounter. Moose, eagles, and spawning salmon are frequently spotted.
