My name is Alex, I am a full-time licensed guide and also a teacher at Lyon University, where I give classes to future guides. I am responsible for 5 classes : adaptation to American visitors, adaptation to river cruise tourism, food tour experience, ethics and business creation, interactive and intertaining tours. I am a foodie and I deeply believe that food is a perfect introduction to another culture, a wonderful way to enjoy life, meet people, and face otherness. Lyon also used to be the main centre of the silk production in Europe during centuries : you can't imagine the treasures we still have in beautiful made-in-Lyon-velvet workshops, and the skills of passionate artisans we meet together during weaving demonstrations or demonstrations of handmade painting on silk. . . One day with a local to discover Lyon. This itinerary will lead you through the city during 3 hours in the morning, and 4 hours in the afternoon. Alex met us at our hotel and we warmed to him immediately, he is an open and honest person with a warm smile. Alex fulfilled everything promised in his itinerary of this full day tour of Lyon. He lives locally and knows the city well. His use of English is perfect, he can even joke in the language which made it a fun time. We asked for a local lunch experience and we certainly got that. We went to a little restaurant, he knew the owner who fed us local delicacies and drinks. I highly recommend Alex.

Alex is a fantastic guide. We had a wonderful day in Marseille with him. He loves his city, and his pride and enthusiasm was evident everywhere we went. If you're interested in food, Alex is especially great. Our time with him in Les Halles (indoor market) was fantastic. We also enjoyed our time in the old town, traveling through the hidden passageways -- many of which you can't access unless you have a key code. Alex's English was flawless. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our full day tour of Lyon with Alex & driver David. Alex has an effervescent personality and a story for every place, every question. He was full of answers & had a list in his head of what he wanted us to know about all the places we visited. In the Food Hall, he was greeted by many of the merchants, which made us feel a part of the scene, including a wonderful meal experience. Traboules, silkworms, unique candy recipes, secret places in Vieux Lyon, exciting. I would go on tour w him again!
This was the first time we hired a private guide, and we are now glad we did. Alex was both knowledgeable and had a personality. I was looking for somebody that could fulfill the special places, history, and culture of Lyon, but also was a foodie and could relate the past and present food culture. Alex fulfilled both. Bravo!!!
