PS : do not hesitate to send an email even if it shows I am not available ! Bonjour ! My name is Alex, I am a full-time licensed guide and also a teacher at Lyon University, where I give classes to future guides. I am responsible for 5 classes : adaptation to American visitors, adaptation to river cruise tourism, food tour experience, ethics and business creation, interactive and intertaining tours. Welcoming people in my 2, 000 year old city of Lyon is my second nature ! I am here to offer completely different tours because I really love my job, and that is what really makes the difference ! Sharing - Understanding - Open-mindedness - Knowledge - Warmth - Gay-Friendly and Yum-Yum are the keywords during my tours. I specialize in interactive tours and food tours : looking for details, meeting local people, making people understand things, taking time to know each other and go our own pace. And of course there is no tour with me without a tasting or a drink (I am the secret son of Julia Child and Paul Bocuse. . . ) I have a great sense of humour, but I am very strict in terms of QUALITY, I guarantee a 100% convivial and informative experience together ! Lyon is a very fascinating city where the variety of activities to do and sceneries to discover is very impressive : the city is considered as the French capital of gastronomy, but that is not the only reason why I got specialized in food tours and why I spend my days in the impressive indoor market Les Halles de Lyon-Paul Bocuse. I am a foodie and I deeply believe that food is a perfect introduction to another culture, a wonderful way to enjoy life, meet people, and face otherness. Lyon also used to be the main centre of the silk production in Europe during centuries : you can't imagine the treasures we still have in beautiful made-in-Lyon-velvet workshops, and the skills of passionate artisans we meet together during weaving demonstrations or demonstrations of handmade painting on silk. . . Top 4 by Alex : Food tour(s), Panoramic 4h tour, Silk Tour, and of course Vieux-Lyon 2h tour (you will see, I have keys and codes that will lead you to places where nobody else go !) See you very soooooon, et vive la France ! Alex Degree in languages (English - Italian) Professionnal tour guide card issued by the French State Teacher in guiding techniques, food tours and adaptation to foreign visitors at Université Lyon 2 I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle but I can arrange for a separate car/coach/taxi and driver.

"A fabulous journey in a maze of hidden passageways. Fabulous if you do not lose your guide" Listed as World Heritage Site by the Unesco, the Vieux-Lyon is indisputably the most fascinating & picturesque neighbourhood of Lyon, the one you cannot miss All around the majestic St-Jean Gothic cathedral, you will discover cobbled & narrow streets typical of the European old cities. But if you look up or push the doors to admire the courtyards & vibrant façades, you will definitely seize the true colors of the old town : a very Italian Renaissance vibe You’ll explore a complex & unexpected labyrinth of secret alleyways : the traboules So unique in the world : you sneak into the buildings, go through this network of courtyards used by Resistants during World War II & end up in different streets This section is not only about heritage. It has a soul & it is fully alive. Between local restaurants, silk workshops & praline tastings, this tour is an immersion into the most charming part of the local identity

Alex really brought Vieux Lyon to life for our family tour. We saw the deep history behind mixture of cobblestone streets and the complex passages that allowed the city to expand in such a small space. Alex brought us to local shops where we could experience how the silk trade helped develop Lyon’s industries and sweet shops that sell the iconic pralines. I do not want to say much more, as it may spoil the many fun surprises Alex’s specialty tour will give you. I would definitely recommend Alex to show you the fun secretes of Lyon!
We had a fun, quick tour through Vieux Lyon and the traboules with Alex. Alex was friendly and informative. He showed us, and told us about, areas of old Lyon that we would not otherwise been able see. We recommend Alex and this tour.
For two people, the price for the two hour tour with Alex was quite expensive. Was he worth it? Every centime! Er, eurocent. He is a native of the area, loves his city, and it shows as he gave us an informative history lesson while we trabouled our way around and through the passageways that connect, on more ways than we had known, the intimate streets of Old Lyon. Alex is extremely knowledgable and is delighted to share some of that information. This was a really great tour! Thanks.
Alex is a tremendous guide! He is an energetic fountain of knowledge, and has a number of great surprises along the tour. Alex is also highly entertaining, making my jet-lagged 14yo laugh repeatedly - she loved him! I had a number of questions about architecture and customs that previously confounded me on internet searches, and he not only answered them but gave historical context. Fantastic tour - wish we'd booked more time. Thank you, Alex, for sharing your Lyon with us!
Alex was a great tour guide and gave us lots of information on Lyon and also corrected some misinformation. His English is perfect. We had a wonderful silk demonstration by one of the the last companies left in Lyon and also some wine and sausisonne and cheese at a wine shop. He knows history and architecture extensively and he has a great sense of humor. I have travelled extensively and he is top notch!
- Starting at Vieux-Lyon metro station for a walk. - Saint-Jean Gothic cathedral (astronomical clock, stained-glass windows…). - Traboules, Renaissance courtyards & other secret alleyways. - Presentation of local "bouchons" restaurants and silk workshops. - More traboules ! - End of the tour at Vieux-Lyon metro station or in the center of Vieux-Lyon.
