Hi everyone, my name is Maicon! I am a French licensed tour guide. Thank you for your interest in my tours of Lyon. A little bit about me… After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Arts and Literature, a High University Diploma to become a French Licensed Tour Guide, and a Master's Degree in Art History, I've spent already many years providing unique experiences to people from all over the world. I am passionate about art and history, but the most beautiful thing about my work is the chance that I have to share that passion with other people. In Lyon, where I am currently living, my interests vary from ancient and archeological sites, to religious local history, medieval and renaissance architectural history, museums, modern history, and of course, everything related to Lyon's local traditions and reputation, such as, the Second World War, the silk industry, the very famous narrow and picturesque passage-ways called "Traboules", as well as gastronomy (with its very traditional restaurants named "Bouchons") and the heritage left in Lyon by the Father of French Gastronomy, Paul Bocuse. Lyon has a lot to offer. In every single corner, a piece of the city's history can be appreciated, and with a more dynamic walking pace, we can cover most of the city's main features. However, if you don't walk fast, and you feel like taking your time to ask questions, or even getting a quick rest or a coffee break, I'll be more than happy to adapt to your needs. After all, my philosophy is that it must be a very informative and interesting tour, but also, enjoyable to the whole group. My tours are customizable and the itineraries are flexible. Thank you again for reading my profile, and I look forward to hearing from you and meet you in Lyon. Academic background: - Bachelor's Degree in Languages and Literature (English and Portuguese) - Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Literature (France and Italy) - Professional Bachelor's Degree to become a French licensed guide - Master Degree in Art History Professional experience - Best French Guide of the year 2016 in Rome, Italy (based on reviews of visitors) - Tour guide in the Museum of Silk and Decorative Arts of Lyon - French Guide in Lyon I am not a driver, but I am pleased to accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Fourvière Hill is the place where Lyon was founded in 43 B. C. The ancient Roman theaters are among the most important remains of Roman period still visible nowadays, bearing witness to a time of greatness of "Lugdunum", as the city was named in those times. Fourvière Hill also offers a unique panoramic view of the city, where we can understand the strategical location of Lyon, not only as one of the most important Roman colonies, but also as the "Capital of the Gauls". Today, the Hill is crowned with the splendid "Basilica of Our Lady of Fourvière", a major monument, representing the importance of religious history and faith in Lyon from Middle-Ages until Modern times. During this tour, we will also explore the "Old Town", the Medieval and Renaissance district of Lyon, visiting Saint-John's Cathedral, its narrow and picturesque streets and secret passageways called "traboules", learn about Lyon's gastronomy, and admire some rich palaces and their breath-taking courtyards.

Maicon Santos was knowledgeable, accommodating and demonstrated passion in the city and its history, providing a thoroughly excellent and rewarding experience. We would highly recommend him.
My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed our time with Maicon! It's rare to find a tour guide who may be as interesting and enlightening as the subject matter itself. My family found Maicon, who hails from Sao Paolo originally, to be extremely knowledgeable and worldly. Maicon also has an interest in art history and culture that wonderfully supplements the hard facts and information that he provides. It's clear that Maicon has a great deal of experience and presents history as a series of stories and personal anecdotes; he is able to communicate information, give insight into one's daily life back during these times, and keep you intrigued all at once. Overall, we highly recommend spending an afternoon with Maicon if you are keen on learning. He also was capable of answering all of the questions that we had on tangential or somewhat related subjects.
It such a shame our tour had run out of time… it felt like we were just getting started! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and friendly we had such a great time and he recommended such an authentic delicious place for lunch!
We have had many tours with Tours By Locals, which have all been excellent. But Maicon's Lyon tour was outstanding! And do you know why? Because doing what he does is a passion for him. And his knowledge of Lyon and its "unknown to most, places" just adds to the experience. We cannot wait to return to Lyon and take another of Maicon's tours. Thank you Maicon, for making our Lyon stay a memorable one! P.S. Be sure to book a three hour tour, and start at 09:00. There will be a wonderful surprise at the end of your tour.
This is a wonderful tour! Maicon is an incredible guide - friendly, professional, knowledgeable, patient, and well-informed. We toured with him on our first full day in Lyon. We learned so much in our time with him and appreciated his depth of historical knowledge. He is also very kind and was a pleasure to tour with! We highly recommend him for tours!!
