Hello! My name is Filipa and I am a Certified Tour Guide in Lisbon and its surroundings. Living in such a beautiful city has led my parents to impart me with principles of valorization of heritage and history from a very young age, probably having taken me to every museum and palace there was to be visited!

Thus, I believe this might be the reason why I appreciate and enjoy history so much. Added to my love for communication and languages, it only made sense to pursue my dream job of being a Tour Guide.

I have an undergraduate degree in Tourism Information, where my classes were mostly focused on Portuguese history, art, culture, geography, as well as interpersonal skills, storytelling, and leadership. I have been working as a tour guide since 2015, first focusing on tours around the country and in most recent years, around Lisbon's metropolitan area.

I went back to University to "conquer" my Master's Degree in Strategic Management of Tourism Destinations, which has instilled me with even more insight on destinations, tour planning and management.

Both my academic and professional experience have given me awareness of my role as leader, interpreter and mediator between the tourists and the destinations. Therefore, I take my profession very seriously whilst showing a lot of passion for what I do.

On this tour, we'll venture into the old quarter of the city, Alfama. Later, from the top of one of Lisbon's 7 hills, we'll grasp how a small roman town called Olisipo, has transformed into such a picturesque yet, vibrant city.

When walking down from the castle we will see the cathedral dating back to the 12th century, a century marked by the implementation of the Portuguese monarchy, and the time when the first king of Portugal expelled the Moors from Lisbon.

Once we get to Baixa, we'll be surrounded by 18th century buildings, which faced the consequences of the 1755 earthquake that brought destruction upon the city. Therefore, Lisbon, just like a phoenix, had to rise from the ashes.

When in Chiado, we'llsee Lisbon's historic shops and cafes, mostly dating to the 19th & 20th centuries. In a full circle moment reachi Bairro Alto, a quarter known for its bustling nightlife yet a serene district during the day, we'll be able to see the castle from where we started this journey through the centuries.

History of Lisbon - Half Day Walking Tour

On the first part of the tour, we will focus on the National Palace, part of the cultural landscape of Sintra, the first ever declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This 15th century palace is also famous for its impressive 33 meters high chimneys, precious glazed tiles and ceilings.

We will walk along Sintra's charming streets and then take you to Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point of continental Europe.

As for lunch I can recommend one of the many restaurants along the coast on the way to Cascais, which are privileged with the most breathtaking view over the Atlantic Ocean. Incidentally, they mostly specialize on fish and seafood.

The latter part of this tour we be an exploration of Cascais and Estoril, part of the Portuguese Riviera, therefore, chosen by the Portuguese royal family as their summer getaway destination. In Estoril, I will tell you about the town's connection World War II and also to James Bond!

Cultural Sintra and Whimsical Cascais - Full Day Tour in Portugal

The first part of this tour focuses on an introduction of the city. While driving through its historical quarters, you'l understand how different events shaped its history and architecture over centuries.

Touring with a local like me allows you to learn about the Portuguese: who we are, what are our traditions and how superstitions shape our everyday's life. In other words, you'll have an insight on the Portuguese soul.

Then, we'll explore Belém's quarter. This was the exact place where vessels from the 15th and 16th centuries (our golden age) departed from Portugal to make the world bigger and simultaniously smaller.

Finally, we will have the opportunity of enjoying a tasting of the Pastel de Belém (the best version of the Pastel de Nata), which was listed by the Guardian as one of the '50 best things to eat' and considered the best pastry in the world by the TasteAtlas.

This tour will provide you with great knowledge and appreciation for the Portuguese history, architecture, culture and gastronomy.
