Gonçalo is an amazing guide, we spent all day with him in Sintra and emptied his brain of his vast information. There was no question too small or too big that he couldn't answer. We enjoyed every minute we spent with him. His English is fabulous.
The ride with him to Sintra was in a lovely vehicle making the 45-minute ride comfortable, full of great conversation and information preparing us for our visits to the Quinta da Regaleira including the Initiation Well and the to the Pena Palace. It was a great lesson in architecture and art and history and the stories and symbols within the stories and symbols.
Small pit stops for pastry even came with a culinary and history lesson. Delicious and fulfilling to the mind and belly!
On the way back to Lisbon, we visited the beautiful Cascais. It is a beach and vacation town with an unusual history of the King’s personal enjoyment of his visit back in the early 1900’s and how the town grew from there. The finish before heading back to Lisbon was a trip through Estoril pointing out the Casino which is the inspiration for Ian Flemming’s James Bond. Thanks to Gonçalo we have a better memory and story to remind us of this town and a connection to a character we all love.
Our knowledge of Portuguese history was not very good, but Gonçalo put so many things into place to give a great overview of the timeline of this country’s fascinating history. He not only explained the when, and the what, but the why. We had a few days on our own after Lisbon. Because of our time with Gonçalo we were better prepared for the places we visited and had some interesting places to stop along the way.
We are so grateful to have begun our trip with a day with Gonçalo. If we ever have the opportunity to return, we would welcome the opportunity to spend time with him again!
Goncalo was fantastic! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the region and made a very long day feel like a breeze. He was also incredibly patient with our 7 year old, who was sad he wasn't coming with us at the end of the day. 10/10 would recommend again!
We enjoyed two wonderful tours in Portugal: a full-day tour of Sintra, Cascais, and Cabo da Roca, and a half-day historic Lisbon tour with beautiful parks, culture, the celebration of St. Anthony, and beautiful views all around Lisbon. The full-day tour of Sintra, Cascais, and historic Lisbon was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Portugal. From the moment we met our guide, we felt welcomed like old friends.Their knowledge of Portugal’s history, culture, architecture, and traditions was exceptional, and they shared it in such an engaging and enjoyable way. Every stop had a story, and we came away with a much deeper appreciation for this beautiful country. The day was perfectly organized, allowing us to experience the fairy-tale beauty of Sintra, the stunning coastline of Cascais, and the rich history of Lisbon without ever feeling rushed. Our guide was attentive, patient, and happy to answer every question we had.
What made this tour truly unforgettable was the genuine warmth and passion our guide brought to the experience. By the end of the day, Portugal no longer felt like a destination we were visiting, it felt like home. If you’re considering this tour, don’t hesitate. It is worth every minute, and we couldn’t recommend it more highly. Thank you for giving us memories that we will treasure for a lifetime!

A tour with Goncalo did not disappoint! Very knowledgable and passionate about the history of Lisbon and Portugal. We had a wonderful time visiting Sintra and the Pena palace and the highlight of our trip was a drive through Cascais and lunch on the water that included delicious sea bass cooked table side in salt. Everything was timely and we returned to our ship in plenty of time. Highly recommend Goncarlo for a private tour.
Gonzalo was better than expected. A young man with a wealth of knowledge and a passion for history, his people and his country; this man made our visit fantastic. Gonzalo took care of our every need. He drove expertly through crowds and narrow roads and made cogent recommendations when we asked for restaurants or museums. If you want to get the most from your time in Lisbon, reach out to Gonzalo. Fabulous!
