Hello! My name is Filipa and I am a Certified Tour Guide in Lisbon and its surroundings. Living in such a beautiful city has led my parents to impart me with principles of valorization of heritage and history from a very young age, probably having taken me to every museum and palace there was to be visited! Thus, I believe this might be the reason why I appreciate and enjoy history so much. Added to my love for communication and languages, it only made sense to pursue my dream job of being a Tour Guide. I have an undergraduate degree in Tourism Information, where my classes were mostly focused on Portuguese history, art, culture, geography, as well as interpersonal skills, storytelling, and leadership. I have been working as a tour guide since 2015, first focusing on tours around the country and in most recent years, around Lisbon's metropolitan area. I went back to University to "conquer" my Master's Degree in Strategic Management of Tourism Destinations, which has instilled me with even more insight on destinations, tour planning and management. Both my academic and professional experience have given me awareness of my role as leader, interpreter and mediator between the tourists and the destinations. Therefore, I take my profession very seriously whilst showing a lot of passion for what I do. Overview of your Lisbon tour
We start the tour by the monastery of St. Jerome. If the lines are not too long and the church is open, we can visit it. This monastery is World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and its first stone was laid here in 1501. We will learn about its history, architecture, decorative style and who lived here. Then, we will have the opportunity of having a coffee break in the famous factory of the custard tarts, inaugurated in 1837, which continues to sell the Pastel de Belém (the original version of 'Pastel de Nata'). From here, we will walk to the Monument to the Discoveries. This portuguese caravel has 33 statues 'on board' , representing those who were crucial to the portuguese maritime discoveries. There is also a world map where we will be able to learn about the old portuguese empire - its rise and demise. Finally, we will walk a bit more to see the Belém Tower, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, built in the beginning of the 16th century.
