Short on time but want to experience the very best of Lisbon? This private half-day tour is the perfect introduction to Portugal’s capital. With me as your native Portuguese and certified local guide, you’ll discover the city’s most iconic sights through engaging stories, local insight, and a relaxed, well-paced experience. In just 4 hours, we’ll explore Lisbon’s essential neighborhoods and landmarks. Walk through Baixa, the elegant downtown rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, then continue to the refined Estrela district to admire its magnificent basilica. In Belém, the birthplace of Portugal’s Age of Discoveries, you’ll see the Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries—symbols of a nation that once ruled the seas. We’ll finish in Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest quarter, where narrow streets, tiled façades, and echoes of Fado reveal the city’s true soul. Fully private, flexible, and ideal for first-time visitors who want to see Lisbon’s highlights without rushing.
Paolo is a fantastic tour guide. Provided us with a very detailed bespoke tour, tailored to our needs and interests. He even asked permission to exceed the time allotted so he could cover a few additional sights that would interest us. We recommend him highly!
Paolo made the most of our time in port. He was so knowledgeable on so many topics. His car was new and comfortable. His English was excellent. We learned so much history. He tailored our tour to the things we had discussed online, and included some must-see things I had overlooked. I can't say enough good things about our day in Lisbon with Paolo.
Paulo was one of the best guides we have ever had! He explained the highlights then gave us time to walk around and take pictures. He was not in a hurry and extended our tour to show us some local points of interest. He was extremely knowledgeable about his city and history. He was also very personable. Would highly recommend!!
Paulo has a wealth of detailed and fascinating information about Lisbon and his beloved country! We greatly enjoyed learning about Portugal's Explorations and its mercantile philosophy that has kept the country neutral, economically creative and independent. Paulo took us on a panoramic tour with minimum walking at our request due to Richard's Parkinson's. We feel we really learned about Lisbon as it was more spread out with diverse neighborhoods than we realized. We appreciated seeing some of the modern tile murals in the residential neighborhood off the beaten path since we were disappointed that the tile museum was under renovation.
We loved Paulo! The four of us had been to Lisbon before but never had such a wonderful and informative visit! Paulo was absolutely one of the best tour guides we have all had. We have used Tours by Locals all over the world and even though we were with Paulo for a half day tour we learned so much, never felt rushed and just a joy! Don't miss out book Paulo if you are in Lisbon or surrounding area! Thank you Paulo for making our visit to Lisboa so special!
Paolo is an amazing guide. We booked this tour last minute and Paolo was incredibly accommodating. He picked us up at our apartment promptly, in a new and clean car. We appreciated how he tailored the tour to our preferences. Paolo is very knowledgeable of the history of Lisbon. He answered all of our questions thoroughly. Paolo is kind, generous, and patient. We highly recommend this tour.
Experience the best of Lisbon on this captivating half-day private tour, perfect for travelers eager to explore the city’s most iconic landmarks. Our journey begins at Rossio Square, the heart of Lisbon’s historical center, where lively cafés and traditional shops capture the city’s authentic charm. We’ll continue through the elegant Estrela quarter, known for its stunning basilica and local atmosphere. Then, we head west to Belém, the birthplace of Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. Here, you’ll admire the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery*, a masterpiece of Manueline architecture, followed by stops at the Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries, both symbols of Portugal’s maritime glory. As your local educated guide, I’ll share the fascinating stories behind each monument, helping you connect deeply with Lisbon’s proud past and vibrant culture. *Due to limited entry, the Jerónimos Monastery visit may depend on queue times.
