Inside the city walls, we see Faro as if it were medieval times. Narrow streets that end in a big square in front of the cathedral. The cathedral is filled with (mostly) 18th-century decorative arts (the very famous azulejos or glazed tiles, and guilt woodwork). We will also take time to enjoy the view from the cathedral's belfry.

The city walls themselves also hide different treasures from times passed that we will look for on our way to another highlight of the city: Carmo church.

Historically the inland of the region was where the well-off people lived, and we can see this in the Roman ruins of Milreu which in its heyday was an impressive and luxurious villa with its own private bath-house and chapel. Unfortunately this complex is currently in ruins but we can still enjoy the elaborate mosaic floors and get a sense of the complex and how it used to be.
The same can be said for the Palace of Estoi, walking distance from the ruins. The palace was built in the 18th century, by a local nobleman in order to have a safe haven in this gorgeous location perfectly framed within the landscape.

This city in the Algarve's inland has the most varied examples of traditional chimneys we can find in the entire region. These chimneys used to show off the owner's wealth and were made in a specific way, we can discover more about them during the tour as these chimneys were the topic I chose for my Master's thesis and I enjoyed discovering more about them! As for Loulé's market, built in the early 20th century, it shows an exotic arabic style and crowded streets when the market is held, an absolute must visit! Besides these traditional aspects of the city, a visit to the center is not complete without a peek at the Chapel of Our Lady of Conception (decorated with glazed tyles and showing part of the city walls underneath the current building), as well as the Medieval Islamic Baths that recently were recovered opened to the public as a museum.

St Lawrence's church in Almancil is a must-see spot in the region. Completely decorated with blue and white glazed tiles that show different moments of the life of this saint. These tiles cover the entire inside of the building, including the vaulted ceiling and the dome!
After taking in all the beauty of this building we will walk a short distance to a little winery, where we can taste a few different wines from the Bairrada region, with some snacks as well. Here we can relax and compare the different tastes - they even produce sparkling wine in a can! Why not wind down and try it, Portugal is a true wine country and as such a visit to a winery is also a must.
