Hi, I’m Rui, a certified local guide based in Lisbon. Lisbon is a city where more than 2,000 years of history meet a lively, modern way of life. During this private half-day experience, I’ll introduce you to the city through its most important landmarks, neighborhoods and viewpoints. We’ll explore Belém, with skip-the-line access at Jerónimos Monastery whenever available, and see the Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries and the Tagus River. Depending on your interests, we can also include Alfama, Baixa, Chiado, Avenida da Liberdade or modern Lisbon. Along the way, I’ll share not only the city’s history but also what everyday life is really like in Portugal today. The route is flexible, relaxed and designed to give you the clearest possible picture of Lisbon in just a few hours.
Jose was one of the best tour guides we have ever had. After i told him that my husband and I had both had knee replacement surgeries in the last few months, he paced our tour perfectly allowing several short rest stops along the way. Rui met us at the end of a cruise. Our first stop with him was to deliver our luggage to the hotel we were to stay in. We very much enjoyed touring Lisbon with him. He had arranged for us to have lunch at a very pleasant restaurant featuring local Portuguese cuisine. He speaks excellent English and had many helpful suggestions to make our time in Lisbon even more enjoyable.
We used Rui as our guide for two full days, and I cannot recommend him enough. The first day he took us around Lisbon, and the second day he took us around Sintra. He knew all the best sites to take us to, and had interesting nuggets of information to tell us both about the history of Portugal, as well as the modern day culture. He also was very helpful in helping us logistically, as we stayed in separate hotels each night, and he arranged our pickup and dropoff seamlessly. I wish every tour guide was as reliable and interesting as Rui.
I thought I'd given this review many months ago but apparently i overlooked it, which is a shame because Rui was great. He personalized our tour to accommodate our unusual time and location needs (he picked us up at the airport and, after the tour was over, took us to our hotel). He provided an outstanding overview of Lisbon history and was both fun and knowledgeable.
Our tour of Lisbon with Rui was one of the best experiences we have had in our many years of traveling, and it was all because of Rui. He was so knowledgeable and personable that the time spent with him seeing Lisbon went by too fast. He showed us everything we wanted to see and then some. He ensured we had the time to explore, if we wanted to, and we never felt rushed. One thing we enjoyed was that he was constantly telling us about Lisbon and its history. Not every tour guide does that, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Rui made our time in Lisbon a very memorable experience and we are so grateful for that.
