Welcome to Amsterdam! My name is Silvan. Tour guide, artist, birdwatcher, family man. My earliest traceable ancestor was a miller in a town just north of Amsterdam in the 15th century. So yes, I'm local, but also global; I lived in the USA for several years. I started as a tour guide in 2014 with a company specialised in birdwatching tours. But I also have a passion for culture; with ToursByLocals I offer a broad range of tours, some focused on nature, some on culture and history, some combining both. You may already know that the Amsterdam city center with its canals received recognition as UNESCO world heritage. The ever-present threat of flooding has forced the Dutch to become trailblazers in the field of civil engineering. The city as well as the countryside are uniquely designed to accommodate walkers and bikers besides cars, trains and boats. The tiny but densely populated country of the Netherlands (colloquially "Holland") is an intricate patchwork in which people and nature coexist.
