Hi! I'm Ralph, your bilingual guide (born and raised in the UK, Dutch parents). Welcome to Amsterdam - it's a fantastic place to visit! I've lived here in Amsterdam for almost forty years, so I've seen a lot of changes - but the city is just as astonishing, beautiful, wonderful and unique as it was when I arrived in 1986. I'm an environmental scientist by training and a translator and musician by trade. I've always had a very wide range of interests including art, architecture, medicine, history, trade, language, technology, and industrial archaeology. Amsterdam has played a central role in all of these fields for many centuries, especially during its Golden Age, so the city and the surrounding areas offer an enormous wealth of fascinating insights, locations, stories and experiences. Over the last forty years I've always enjoyed showing family, friends, and visitors around this amazing city - on foot, by bicycle, by car, and especially by boat (I also have a skipper's licence). Now I look forward to sharing my extensive knowledge and enthusiasm with you, as your private guide! I have my own car (with a large sun roof), so I can meet you anywhere and take you anywhere. I can skipper a boat for you. I love meeting people. I'm a good communicator and an attentive listener. I'm flexible, so you can alter any itinerary to your liking or specific requirements. And I'm keen to hear about your own special interests. I would enjoy doing the research to ensure you get the tour YOU want! - BSc Environmental Sciences (UEA, UK) - Sworn translator (Dutch - English) - KVB1 (skipper's licence)

Having owned a boat for many years I'm well acquainted with Amsterdam's waterways and can offer an absolutely unique tour through this astonishingly beautiful city - and one that is best seen from the water! I will rent a safe, comfortable, silent, electric-powered boat and take you around. Unlike the mass-market boat tours, we can go anywhere and everywhere and follow our own inspirations. We have complete freedom - to go where the big tourist boats don't go, to explore the narrower canals, to go through tunnels and 'off the beaten track', and to stop off whenever we like. If you only ever visit Amsterdam once, THIS is the way to do it!
This tour picks you up by boat wherever you wish, takes you all around Amsterdam (subject to duration!), and drops you off wherever you want. I have an itinerary in mind, of course, but we can always diverge from it to explore your own interests! I would want to include: - the famous canals, to admire the glory of their patrician mansions and see the Anne Frank House; - the Red Light district, in the historic heart of the city; - the Jordaan, once a muddy slum outside the city walls, and now a unique and captivating neighbourhood of narrow canals, pretty little houses, trees and flowers; - the Oosterdok and Westerdok, the 16th- and 17th-century shipbuilding districts, to see historic ships and buildings. There will be numerous spots where you can disembark - to take a closer look at something, visit the Waag or the Flower Market, stretch your legs, or grab a coffee and a bite and use the WC.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
By boat. I will rent an open, comfortable, electric-powered boat specifically designed for small tour parties (2-10 people). You will need to be able to climb in and out, so good balance and general health and/or some boating experience is required.
