Hi, my name is Bart. Great news that you're planning to visit The Netherlands. I'd love to contribute to make your stay unforgettable. I live with my family in the middle of Amsterdam and we enjoy the city every day. With my own consultancy firm I work with people from all over the world. It is so much fun to meet new people with completely different backgrounds and hearing their stories. My family and I also have great memories of our three years stay in Charlotte, North Carolina. I'm passionate about history, culture and art to feel and understand the choices made by people and to discover their stories that affect our lives today. If ever I'd need to stay on a desert island, I'd definitely bring my jazz music, mountain bike, great beers and cheese. I enjoy sharing my love for Amsterdam and all the incredible sites The Netherlands has to offer. I'm looking forward to showing you around and for you to experience and enjoy these special places. There are so many nice places to visit. So, if you have any special requests, I can easily set up a custom tour for you. All my regular tours are priced with Amsterdam as our starting point. But, should you want to start anywhere else, that's absolutely no problem. If you would like to compile a multi-day program with me? No problem! Just let me know and we'll put a nice program together. I love to customize my tours to your preferences and ideas. Half of my tours are custom tours! Next to my regular tours I would love to show you Belgium (e.g. Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels). If you would like to do that out of Amsterdam I might be a very suitable tourguide for you. I've toured with travelers from all over the world: USA, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Guatemala, England, Kenia, South Africa, The Philippines and Hong Kong. Always a joy to have fun with foreigners!

In September 1944 the allied forces aimed to circle around the Siegfried Line to get a breakthrough into Germany. We'll go to the main battle theatres at Nijmegen and Arnhem. We'll be at sites that carry moments which changed the course of the war and that give us exciting stories of what soldiers and civilians went through. We'll be on the trail of the 82nd US Airborne Division with the 504, 505 and 508 Para Infantry Regiments, the 1 British Airborne Division and the 1st Polish Para Brigade. Growing up, I was keen to hear my parents and grandparents talk about the war. I have been connecting dots of this heroic and tragic past ever since. I would love to hear about your WWII stories to make our tour a personal and unique experience. If you need to take it really easy on our field day: don't worry, I'm an easy going and patient guy. I'll pull you through and we'll take breaks whenever we want to. I'll tweak our itinerary to suit your personal interests.
I will pick you up at 8AM at your hotel. We'll drive to the Arnhem and Nijmegen area where we will arrive at about 10AM. We will be back in Amsterdam at approximately 6PM. A selection of the sites we will hit: -Grave bridge and drop zone of Col. Tucker's 504 Para Infantry Regiment -Overasselt Drop and Landing Zones and the café where Josephine Baker performed for the troops. -The Molenhoek bridge at Heumen. -The Mookerheide hunting lodge serving as German HQ, SS training centre and ammo depot. -Landing Zone of Brig. Gen. Gavin's 82nd US Airborne at Groesbeek -Kranenburg village in Germany and its tragic events. -Waal bridge at Nijmegen and the famous Waal crossing location. -Arnhem theatre drop zones at Wolfheze and Ginkel heath. -Arnhem bridge (held by Lt. Col. John Frost for so long) Even as a kid I wanted to know everything about WW2. I loved the stories from my parents and grand parents and what they did to survive. If you want, I am happy to customize the tour for you.

We will take my car to drive down to the Nijmegen and Arnhem area. A Volkswagen Golf Plus. Quite comfortable with 3 guests (see my pictures). We will be driving 275 miles (440km). That includes 125 miles of transfer to the battle fields and 150 miles in the area. So we will see a lot of sites!! If you are a party of 4 to 6 travelers, I will arrange a luxury rental van (see my pictures). The extra cost for this rental van will be 417 euros.
Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands
I will pick you up at your Amsterdam hotel or the Amsterdam cruiseterminal, but if you're already in Arnhem or Nijmegen, I will pick you up at your hotel/address in Arnhem or Nijmegen. The tour-booking process will allow you to put in your preferred pick-up location. If you have any questions, just let me know :-)
