Nice to meet you! My name is Monique, which is a French name but my roots are very much in The Netherlands. My grandfather came from a family of famous Tulip traders and there’s even a bulb named after the family. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place in the world. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the interesting backstories and anecdotes about history, culture, beauty and fascinating details. All the things that make Amsterdam, its canals, the buildings and the art come alive. I have a great passion for the wonderful paintings and collections in the museums. Both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are some of my favorite places in the city and I love helping you discover them in the most inspiring and memorable way. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. You will see what an important part this is in the history of Amsterdam. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city like an insider. Whether you’re looking for a deep understanding of the city or a museum, or if you’re mostly looking for the special spots and highlights with your kids, all is possible. Overview of your Amsterdam tour
Amsterdam is a small city and with all its canals, narrow streets and bridges, you can easily discover the city by foot. In only 4 hours I will take you to the must see spots of the city centre. It's a beautiful walk that partly goes through the medieval part of Amsterdam, where you can find the oldest church and Red Light District in the very heart of the city. We'll also walk along the most famous canals (World Unesco Heritage) from the Golden Age and cross the vibrant 9 little streets. You'll see the Beguinage, an inner courtyard where still today only women are living and more special spots in the city. This walking tour is full of stories about the history, culture, people and modern lifestyle of Amsterdam. It will leave you with a feeling that you didn't miss out. She was excellent in gauging how much info to share, she always got it right. The walking tour packed a lot into 4 hours, but didn’t seemed rushed. We stopped for a coffee and snacks half way through which was a nice rest break. I would highly recommend Monique.
