My ancestors were people of West-Frisia (currently the Dutch province of North Holland), denizens of the shores of Zuyderzee, sailors and traders in the Hansa region (the North and Baltic Seas). Join me on a trip to ancestral lands and the natural beauty of the north! The Dutch province of Drenthe is particularly rich in prehistoric sites. The so-called Celtic Fields are marked by burial mounds and traces of agricultural fields in an open landscape of purple heath. The megalithic tombs called /dolmen/ or (Dutch: /hunebed/), once believed to be the handiwork of giants, are the legacy of the Funnelbeaker people who inhabited the area some 5 thousand years ago. In the Hunebed Centre museum and prehistoric park, the prehistoric ways are brought to life by re-enactment.
