Hi, I am Femke and I have lived in Amsterdam for 33 years now! When I started studying here, I fell in love with the relaxed atmosphere, freedom and inspiration this tiny metropolis provides. During my whole life, studies, career and family life was and still is based here. So, as you can imagine, I have a lot of stories about Amsterdam: personal ones, but of course also about the amazing history of this city. As a theatre maker, former journalist, illustrator and history student, my favorite hobby is to talk with visitors about the past. Therefore, I started working in several musea and gained a lot of experience. When you meet me, we will speak about everything from the immense wealth in the 17th Century, to the canals, the freedom and tolerance, jewish culture, World War II, the resistance but also the Amsterdam Pride. We will get to see several medieval buildings, canal houses, churches, synagoges, canal bridges and a palace! Join me exploring the beauty of Amsterdam! Official Dutch Teacher's Degree Degree in Cultural History (Open University, Amsterdam) Former Professional Journalist Experience working in different Museums I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver. I am not permitted to guide in the Russian language - only English. I do not have a license to give tours inside the Hermitage Museum

In Amsterdam, the inhabitants seem to take their freedom for granted, even if in some cases this seems outrageous or downright shocking to foreigners. On this tour, I will personally explain why our attitude is actually less surprising than you might think. Amsterdam has a backstory in which tolerance and acceptance were proved to be wisdom. On this tour, I will guide you across several buildings and locations that earned a place in world history as it comes to personal life choices. This being said, I will first show you how Amsterdam's older history and even its geography were the cradle of this extraordinary city culture. We will also discuss Dutch culture in general, and dive into what are both the good and the less fortunate consequences of our tolerant history. It should also be noted that, within a good atmosphere, I will go on to tell you about my personal life and how I've lived thirty years of freedom in this city.
- We will start our walk at Beursplein 5 & Dam Square, and get to see how the oldest foundations of the city and its trade origin already were the announcers of a culture of tolerance. - Next, we will walk to the neighborhood where the acceptance of the foreign cultures is reflected through the old Jewish heritage, as well as via Rembrandt's and other artists' paintings. - We will then sit down for a drink at Zwanenburgwal, while a famous philosopher tells us to remember the importance of personal freedom in a State. - We will pass the very location where the first official gay marriage of the world was performed by a mayor of Amsterdam. - Then, we will pass the by the Canal Pride route, our beloved Tolerant Entertainment area and we will complete this tour by sitting down at a memorial for the LGBTQ+ community. - At the end of the tour, I will provide you with all the necessary information and tips to how to get back to your lodging. This itinerary can be customized to best meet your preferences.
