Nice to meet you! My name is Monique, which is a French name, but my roots are very much in the Netherlands. My grandfather came from a family of famous tulip traders, and there’s even a tulip named after the family. I grew up close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. I moved here 25 years ago and still don’t think I ever want to leave. With a background in journalism and creative writing, I’ve always had a broad interest and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the interesting backstories, anecdotes and fascinating details that make Amsterdam and its history come alive. Whether you’re looking for a real understanding of Amsterdam’s history, art and culture, or simply want to discover the special spots in the city, all is possible. I’m full of stories and fun facts and can walk through the city (almost) blindfolded. The museums are a particular passion of mine. I know the collections of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum very well, and after years of guiding there, they are still some of my favorite tours to give. I love bringing you closer to the paintings, the artists and the world they lived in. I also have a special interest in Amsterdam’s Jewish history, including WWII and Anne Frank. I find it especially meaningful to share this important part of Amsterdam’s story with my guests. Over the past 10 years, I’ve guided many different guests on all kinds of private tours through Amsterdam, so I can easily customize a tour for you. Just let me know what you’re looking for — even if it isn’t mentioned on my profile. I’d love to show you my Amsterdam. Credentials: * 11 years of experience as a professional tour guide * Bachelor’s degree in Journalism * Tour guide permit for Amsterdam * Authorized to guide at the Rijksmuseum * Authorized to guide at the Van Gogh Museum * Registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce
