Nice to meet you! My name is Monique, which is a French name but I’m completely Dutch. My grandfather came from a family of famous Tulip traders and there’s even a bulb named after the family. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place to live and work in. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the history, beauty, anecdotes and interesting details that make Amsterdam, its canals, the buildings and the art come alive. I love to connect history, architecture, modern life, people and art in the city. And I have a great passion for the wonderful works in the museums. Both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are some of my favorite places imaginable. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. In all of these I have an extensive experience in guiding. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city the best way.
