Ciao, I'm Nicoletta! Welcome to my ToursByLocals Venice page. I'm a local, I'm an Art Historian, I've worked as a professional certified private guide since 2009 and I love this job. I love staying with people, I love Venice, its light, its Art, its Beauty, and I consider it a privilege to share it with people that really wants to understand and appreciate it. Venice is so beautiful and fragile, and I think that showing its real Beauty I will help people to respect it. Since my graduation in "Art History and Conservation of Cultural Heritage", in 2002, with a thesis on cultural aspects of the Venetian mainland, I have worked in educational programs of some of the major museums of Venice (Correr, Accademia Galleries, Doge's Palace, Peggy Guggenheim): I've worked with schools, families and groups of children, developing particular tours to explain art and history in an exciting way. I've led some special tours focusing on the discovery of the Lagoon and its nature, too, for children and adults. In the same years, as a journalist and an art critic, I have developed a special passion for Contemporary Art, and I have published reviews and small catalogues for several artists. In 2009 I gained the license to work as a professional guide in Venice, so I can now share my knowledge and passion for Art, History, and the wonderful city of Venice, with its fancy palaces and narrow streets, its dark sotoporteghi and canals, its unique history and nature. As a certified tourist guide I can bring you everywhere and explain you any sites and museums in Venice and in Veneto Region. I love food and wine, too, and I've created some itineraries for people that want to discover the traditional cuisine of my city. And, being Mum of two little and wonderful kids, I know how to comunicate the Beauty of Venice to the youngest ones. Having worked for so many years in Venice with different people of different age from all over the word, I have developed a strong attitude to problem solving: you will be in very good and expert hands! All my tours are private and can be customized. Let me know what are your main interests (Art, History, Food, traditions and crafts), I will be glad to design the best tour that fits them! ------------------ NOTICE: between April the 1st and October the 31st I suggest you to contact me before booking, as my availability can change from day to day or even within hours IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PEOPLE TRAVELLING ON A CRUISE If you will be in Venice staying on a cruise ship or just in transit, I can't get any booking from you. Unfortunately, cruise ships are not arriving anymore at the central Venice dock and you will be told about the final docking place just the day before. This make it impossible to schedule any tour with me, I'm sorry. Venice is a City built on more than 120 islands, surrounded by 550 square Kilometres of water and more than 80 islands. This tour will allow you to explore the Lagoon, visiting some of the most important "outer islands": Murano with its glass factories; Burano with its colourful little houses, the fishing boats, the laces, hand made by the women exactly how they did them Centuries ago; Torcello, a quiet and amazing place, where you will see some of the oldest churches of the lagoon. A wonderful tour with the kids, who love seeing how do they blow the glass and - if you want - can try to do their own glass pendant. It will be a good occasion to understand the history of Venice, its relations with the water, the delicate equilibrium which still allow us to preserve one of the most beautiful city in the world. The tour can be completely customised: we can go to the islands using the public boat (slower, but less expensive), or the private taxi, in order to live a very exclusive experience.
Wonderful experience with a fantastic guide with deep local expertise
What a terrific day we spent with Nicoletta! The review is long, but could be longer!! On Murano and Burano she introduced us to traditional ateliers which explained and demonstrated the traditional glass and lace making techniques (respectively). Nicoletta provided added detail explaining the history of how these trades developed on the two islands and how they have evolved over time. One important point to mention is that Nicoletta emphasized that we were under no obligation to make purchases from either atelier. And, we did not feel pressured. Burano was also a lovely island to explore with its colorful houses. Again, Nicoletta provided the context to make the community come alive. Our last stop was Torcello. It’s less often visited but it is the peaceful counterpoint to bustling Venice. Nicoletta focused here on the historical links between the Venetian Republic and Istanbul. Her art history background really shined as we toured the ancient church. I highly recommend Nicoletta as your Venetian tour guide!
Our tour with Nicolette was above and beyond. She took us to Murano to see the glass store and factory which was amazing, then off to a quaint fishing town of Burano which had all the charm you would expect. We returned to Venice learning about its history and attractions. Nicolette was very knowledgeable, and flexible about the daily tour schedule allowing us to get the most out of our day.
We had a wonderful time. Nicoletta knows everything about the area and we learned so much. I highly recommend, especially for a food tour. It was a great day if sights, history and great company.... thank you!!!
This was our third day of touring with Nicoletta and once again, we were not disappointed. We went by private boat to the island of Murano where we were treated to a wonderful glass blowing demonstration and toured the beautiful gallery where the glass blowing masters displayed their work. What a treat! Next, we went by boat to the island of Burano where Nicoletta arranged for us to have a lovely lunch in one of local restaurants. After lunch, we visited a lace store and saw one of the local women demonstrating her skill producing beautiful lace. This was our third and final day in Venice. Nicoletta helped make this a trip we will always remember. She is an outstanding tour guide!
We booked two tours with Nicoletta and highly recommend her as a guide. Her depth of knowledge is immense and she also knows how to tailor the experience to her clients. This tour was lovely and we would book this tour with Nicoletta again if given the chance to be back in the area. If you can get on her busy schedule - do it! She’s busy for good reason - she is professional and highly experienced.

We can do this tour using the Public Transportation from Venice to the islands. Please, note that the public boat can be very slowly, and that between April and October there are long lines to take a boat. Tickets are included. If you prefer to go to the island by private taxi (faster but more expensive), please, send me an inquiry and I will send you a quote.
