Frari church & Scuola of San Rocco

This tour is focused on two buildings located at a short distance, the Franciscan church of the Frari and the seat of the confraternity of San Rocco. Both buildings offer world class works of art and epitomize the greatest achievements of Venetian art and arquitecture in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Frari church houses two altarpieces by Titian and Bellini to celebrate the civic and religious values of the noble families at their burial sites. But many more art works await you in this place, all in all the Frari will provide you an overall insight into the Venetian society of the early renaissance. The School of San Rocco is a most lavishly decorated building built with the purpose to solemnize the school itself as source of benefit for the populace in case of deadly desease. Tintoretto was then picked to provide the school with a pictorial decoration to deliver its main tenets which lasted for 20 years. This large set of works in one place represents one of the greatest example of 16th cent. painting.
