Explore Lille your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Lille tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Lille for every interest, including:

History tours: Explore Vieux-Lille’s cobbled lanes into the Hospice Comtesse, then loop the ramparts of the star-shaped Citadel built by Vauban. Step inside the Maison Natale de Charles de Gaulle and see the Palais des Beaux-Arts’ relief maps of fortified towns.

Layover tours: Meet at Lille Europe or Lille Flandres station for a concise loop to the Grand-Place, the Vieille Bourse’s second-hand book market, and a quick look at Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille. Grab a warm gaufre at Méert before heading back in time for your train or flight.

City highlights tours: Take in the Grand-Place and the Vieille Bourse courtyard, ride the metro to Wazemmes for market-day tastings, and climb the City Hall belfry for a skyline view. Finish with a plate of carbonnade in a classic estaminet your guide loves.

The historic centre is compact and walkable, and the metro, tram, and buses connect easily to neighbourhoods and markets. For longer hops or add-ons like WWI sites, you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Lille inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Lille

From Lille, add easy day trips to nearby Belgian canal towns, WWI memorials, and the Opal Coast, and shape your tour around food, history, or fresh air.

- Bruges, Belgium, for medieval lanes, stepped gables, canals, and chocolate, with classic views around the Markt and Rozenhoedkaai, plus quiet windmill paths in the east end, and your tour can balance museum time with a boat ride or a brewery stop.

- Arras and Vimy Ridge, for grand Flemish squares, underground WWI tunnels, and the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, a strong day for military history, photography, and reflection, and your tour can link town markets with open fields and preserved trenches.

- The Opal Coast, from Wissant to Cap Blanc Nez, for chalk cliffs, wide beaches, WWII relics, and seafood shacks, good if you like coastal walks, wind sports, and sea views, with stops in small villages like Audresselles or Ambleteuse.

- Ghent, Belgium, for riverside guild houses, the fortress of Gravensteen, street art lanes, and lively cafés, mixing architecture, design, and music, and your tour can focus on murals, boats, or local bites around Patershol.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Lille most travellers miss.
