Nice to meet you! My name is Monique and I’m a true Dutchie, born and raised in the Netherlands. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place in the world. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the anecdotes, details and fun facts that make Amsterdam and everything you see come alive. I love history, culture, architecture and local shops. Yet my biggest passion is the art in the museums, where I have been guiding almost daily in the past years. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city the best way. Whether you’re looking for a deep understanding of the city or a museum, or just the special spots and highlights, all is possible. Over the past 11 years, I’ve guided many different guests on all kinds of private tours through Amsterdam. Therefore I can easily customize a tour for you. Many tours can also be combined into a half-day or full-day experience, for example a city walk with a museum visit, or a day full of art, history, local life and local tastings along the way. You’re very welcome to tell me what you’d like to explore, even if it’s not mentioned on my profile page. I’m happy to create a special itinerary for you. I have: *Bachelors degree in Journalism *Experienced tour guide (11 years) * License to guide in Amsterdam City Center *Official guide in the Rijksmuseum *Official guide in the Van Gogh Museum Just to mention: I do also guide in the smaller villages / countryside around Amsterdam. I’m not a driver though. But if you wish to, I can arrange a driver for us.

As someone that grew up in the area, I know how close to Amsterdam you can find a park full of old windmills. It is my pleasure to take you to this special spot that I've loved since I was a child. I will take you into the old mills and tell you all about them. You will finally understand why The Netherlands is so famous for them and how important they've been for the country. Next to that we'll taste some real Dutch cheese and see how the wooden shoes are made. For children there is also some old fashioned Dutch candy. Prepare for a small adventure outside of the city. If you would like to do this tour with more people, that is no problem. Just contact me. There will only be extra costs for the transport and access to the windmills.
For this tour I will pick you up from your hotel and from there we'll go to Central Station. We'll take the train (about 15 minutes) to Zaandijk, the little village where the Zaanse Schans is located. We walk past the picturesque wooden houses, see one of the first windmills and watch how wooden shoes (clogs) are made. Then there is time to taste cheese, Dutch chocolate and my favorite: Stroopwafels (cookies). The Windmills are pretty from the outside, but especially interesting on the inside. We visit a mill that makes paint, one that makes mustard from spices and a mill that can saw wood. After this there is time for some souvenir shopping and/or a cup of coffee before we go back to Amsterdam.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
Public transport (train) to the park and in the park we'll walk.
Piet Heinkade, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
I can meet you at your hotel or cruise port if this one is located in the centre of Amsterdam. Otherwise we can meet at Central Station, in front of restaurant Loetje.
