Hello, I'm Jan. Welcome to Amsterdam and The Netherlands! I've graduated in public administration at Leiden University. I have a big passion for history since I was a teenager and developed a strong interest in European painting and it's history in the last 15 years. I've been doing tours in and around Amsterdam for over 13 years. After all these years I still discover new things in Amsterdam and find out new things about it's history, which makes it such a great place. I provide tours of Amsterdam, it's surroundings (flower fields in April, countryside, windmills, Brussels). I do tours on foot, on ordinary bikes, on my rickshaw, by minivan and if preferred so in combinations of walking and by boat or minivan. Amsterdam is great and unique. Besides the things most people associate with it, there is a lot else you might not have noticed before or read about. Of course I will customize tours. So if you have specific interests or you would like to combine elements of several tours please let me know and I will make a customized proposal. I'm a traveler myself. I have been traveling to the USA, India, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, Egypt, Russia, China and a lot of places in Europe. I'm always curious to discover new places and meet people from all over the world, which is a great advantage of my work. I hope you will enjoy our great, unique city! - 13 years experience with doing tours in and around Amsterdam, on foot, by bike, by rickshaw and by minivan. - I'm graduated in public administration at Leiden University - Licensed to do tours in the Red Light District - I can not provide tours of Anne Frank House, or provide tickets for it. - Taking pictures of women in the red light district is strictly prohibited

On this tour I take you by train to the largest complex of windmills near Amsterdam. It's possible to enter one of the windmills (entrance fee of 5 euro per person exclusive of the price of this tour) and get to see from inside how the completely mechanical transfer of power inside the windmill works. Besides the windmills is a complex of characteristic wooden houses including a traditional cheese factory, a wooden shoefactory and a couple of shops with the interiors of the late 19th/early 20th century. It's possible to join demonstrations of how they produce cheese and how they make the famous dutch wooden shoes from a piece of wood. On average we will spend 2 hours at the complex after which we return to Amsterdam again. In case the walking distance of 10 to 15 minutes from the railway station to the windmillcomplex is too far for you I will order a taxi which brings us from the station to the complex and the other way round.
- I will pick you up from your hotel (as long as it is located in Central Amsterdam), the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (for cruiseships docking there, be carefull: please be sure your cruiseship docks at this Terminal at Piet Heinkade 27), Amsterdam Centraal Railway Station, Amsterdam Airport (train ticket to Amsterdam Central Station not included, 4. 50 euro per person one way) or any other agreed upon location in Central Amsterdam - We will take a taxi, a tram (a kind of train which rides on tracks on streets) or a short walk to Amsterdam Central Railway Station. Transfer shouldn't take more than 15 minutes on average. Riding the local tram is an experience as well! - From Amsterdam Centraal Station the train takes us in less than 20 minutes to a station nearby the windmillcomplex - After a walk of 10 to 15 minutes we are at the windmillcomplex (in case this walk is too far I arrange a taxi) - We tour the windmills, entering one or visiting a cheese- or clogfactory is optional. - Return to Amsterdam
