The windmill village Zaanse Schans is known as an open-air museum that features a collection of operational windmills, wooden houses, barns, and shops from the 18th and 19th centuries. All these buildings were brought here from 1961 onwards, bringing back to life this most prosperous period of the Zaan region. In its golden age, the Zaan region developed into an industrial area on an unprecedented scale. The region was filled with 600 active windmills and wooden factories powered by the wind. In these small factories, many tasks were performed using wind energy: sawing wood by machines, grinding spices, producing oil for food and paint, cocoa powder, and many other things. The prosperity of the 18th and 19th centuries can be seen in various ways in the windmill village: beautiful houses that were originally built as residences for wealthy windmill owners and merchants. These houses have attractive facades and are painted in traditional colors such as green, beige, and light blue.
* Firstly, I'll meet you at a convenient meeting point. * Our next stop will be Amsterdam Central Station, known as the city's central hub. * From there, we'll take a train to Zaanse Schans, a vibrant gathering place where locals and tourists mingle. You'll have the opportunity to admire the Dutch windmills. * Continuing our journey, we'll explore the prosperity of the 18th and 19th centuries, visible in various ways in the windmill village: beautiful houses originally built as residences for wealthy windmill owners and merchants. * Our itinerary includes a visit to the Clog Museum and wooden shoemaker shop, and you will taste Dutch farm cheese at the cheese farm. * Before returning to Amsterdam, we will take on a lake cruise in the Zaanse Village. * Finally, we'll return to Amsterdam Central Station by train, traveling on public transport just as the Dutch do.
