Hi my name is Hans and ever since I was a small boy, growing up in the east of the Netherlands, I have been fascinated by my country's history, landscape and culture. In 1996 I completed a PhD in European history at the University of Amsterdam and since then I have been leading tours through Amsterdam and the Netherlands. It has been a constant pleasure for me to show off the most beautiful spots of the Netherlands to new arrivals and reveal just some of its charms, secrets and unbelievable stories. Car and bus tours are all very well for getting around the Netherlands but it's only through walking that you can truly feel like you've fully experienced this truly unique country. My academic background has given me extensive knowledge of Europe's history and culture but my guiding experience has also included flower themed tours as well as waterland tours which explore the countryside of the Netherlands. I live in Amsterdam and can meet you at centrally located hotels or at a convenient landmark in Amsterdam, Rotterdam or The Hague. Overview of your Amsterdam tour

The first stop on the tour is Delft, where you'll discover its rich history as you stroll through the city center with its historic facades, picturesque canals, and charming squares, where the influence of the famous painter Johannes Vermeer is still palpable. The second stop on the tour is The Hague, where you will visit museum Mauritshuis, home to the finest Dutch paintings from the time of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Admire the Girl with a Pearl Earring, 11 Rembrandts, and The Goldfinch. Another stop in the Hague is the visitor center of the Peace Palace where you will learn more about the history of the Peace Palace and the judicial institutions located there. Before heading back you will visit The Molenviergang in Zevenhuizen, which consists of four windmills connected in series which, for almost two centuries, worked together to maintain the polder level. In short, this tour is a living museum of Dutch history and culture.

Hans did a great job showing us Delft and The Hague. We asked to add the Escher Museum to the itinerary and he was more than happy to do that for us. The car was very comfortable and he shared lots of good information with us.

Hans gives you exactly what you want in a tour. When we were picked up, Hans discussed the our options and then tailored the trip to make sure that we were seeing what we wanted to see. We visited Rotterdam and The Hague. Entry fees and lunch were included in the cost of the trip. All in all it was a great day!

Hans G. was just the right guide for our group of 12. In our second trip with him on September 12, (first on Sept 5 before our cruise), we had 8 of us. He was waiting for us when we got off our cruise ship. We arrived at the Kinderdijk windmills before it opened so we had the place virtually to ourselves. Then rather than just stopping at a gift store to see delft pottery, he took us to the Royal Delft factory in business since 1653 where we got an impressive behind-the-scenes tour. Even our 3 20-some year olds were captivated by the process and lingered behind us older adults. Hans was patient as he made three stops in Amsterdam so each family group could drop off their luggage at hotels and then he continued on with 3 of us to Rijksmuseum and the Maritime Museum. Hans was particularly good in helping our 94- year old Mom with a walker and wheelchair. Book Hans G. You will be pleased.

Hans G. greatly exceeded all our expectations. We were a group of 12 and took two tours with Hans, one a group of 9, the other a different combination group of 8. Not only was Hans flexible in designing our custom tours, he made unique suggestions to fit our goals. What about a tour down country roads to see where real people live and how the canal system impacts their lives, or stopping at four windmills where we'd be the only ones present? Rather than stopping at a shop just to buy cheese, he arranged for us to see a working cheese farm. We wanted to explore a castle and then he added another castle's grounds so we could explore one of the Netherlands most impressive dahlia gardens. Hans arrived early at our start and did everything to make our trips with him sensational. Yes, we could have done all the touristy things with him, but he gave us an insight in the "real" Netherlands.

An absolutely spectacular day! We were met promptly at the Amsterdam port, our goals for the day were discussed and then met in every way, with extra sites thrown in. Hans was knowledgeable about local history, answered all of our many questions about life and culture, navigated us deftly through three cities and returned us to the ship on time. Thank you!

We absolutely enjoyed our tour with Hans. We had been to Amsterdam previously and did most of the things you could do around the city. So we would with Hans to put together a tour to The Hague and Delft. The tour through the Delft Museum was wonderful but we had no idea about the city of Delft itself. It was a nice surprise. Hans was very informative and made the day very special. He was able to pick us up at the cruise terminal and drop us off at the hotel. Very accomodating.
