Discover the rich history of Amsterdam's Jewish community on an immersive 3-hour walking tour. Begin at the Nieuwmarkt down the St Antoniebreestraat. Discover where the Sephardi Jewish gentry lived and their contribution to the success story that made the Netherlands into the first republic of Europe. Down to Waterlooplein to visit an old market with strong Jewish roots, hear about the history of the diamond workers that led to social reforms and the start of the unions. Down to the Portugese Synagogue, a still functioning synagogue from 17th century and further into the Plantage neighborhood. Learn about the impact of World War 2 on the Jewish community. Visit the Auschwitz Monument in Wertheim Park. End at the monument by Daniel Liebeskind. This tour offers a poignant exploration of Amsterdam's Jewish history, blending tales of cultural flourishing with somber reflections on persecution and resilience. Please note we're not going to visit the Anne Frank House as the house is not in the area.
